Hey folks, caught up on Jujutsu Kaisen's first anime season and trying to place Megumi Fushiguro's exact age during those Tokyo arcs. Was he 15 the whole time?

Anime can be a little confusing with timelines and all that, but according to a year-of-birth listed in a flashback (and how old he is in school right now), Jujutsu Kaisen protaganist Megumi is 15 in Season 1. In some way he and his two other first-year high school friends are kind of typical young protagonists finding their powers. I just finished The First of Her Kind where a young teenager has to survive in a sort of medieval court where she’s the first of her kind of magic user, and her inexperience and youth make her a pretty big target in terms of politics.

At 15, Jujutsu Sorcerer Kisara explains the number and types of Shikigami that 15 year old Megumi can control, including the extremely powerful Divine Dogs and the extremely complex Nue. That he is 15 years old and thus extremely immature is the reason that he is able to be of interest to Satoru Gojo. His use of Mahoraga against the Finger Bearer in order to try and save everyone was not a tactic, it was a desperate act of a 15 year old boy who has not yet fully realized the value of his own life. In the scenes that follow, you see Megumi slowly come to realize that he is to be saved, that he is to continue to live. The point at which he realizes that he is more than just a tool for destruction, that he is a young man with a future, is 15 years old. That is the age at which we discover the worth of our lives.

His genius Fighting Style is a haphazard, in-the-moment kind of tactic one would associate with a rebellious teenager, rather than the measured, methodical approach of an adult sorcerer, such as Nanami. And whereas that man is worn down by the world, tired, defeated even, in a way that’s resigned and bitter, the same is not true for the young boy. His weariness is a seething, coiled, bitter, angry thing. That he hasn’t yet come to terms with the obvious injustices of the jujutsu world and is, instead, quietly battling against them one by one, makes him all the more exciting. His rage and potential is something that grown men, like Gojo, look to in order to see the promise of a potential change for the current, stagnant state of jujutsu sorcerers.

I'm only on here for the Megumi love and the wiki states he is 15, so that makes him a typical 15 year old high school student. I can just imagine him in a school club activity, silent in the back of the room, looking unaffected as he gets 100% on every test without even studying for them. It's funny because his deadpan humor would probably remain the same in these situations too. I can just imagine him sitting in a meeting for a school club, looking utterly uninterested and unconcerned. It's kind of bittersweet because we can see how much potential a typical 15 year old has, but we never see that with Megumi.

I'd really appreciate a scan from the manga or an official guidebook to prove that Yuji is 15, as it's just something that's widely accepted and rarely referred to. His status as a student, his relations with other characters, and even his somewhat underdeveloped physique all confirm this. Although he's definitely not a grown man, he's not a little kid either. Right now, he's at that most difficult stage of life – a teenager who's struggling to grow up while at the same time trying to work out who he is. And on top of all that, the rest of the world is pressurizing him to be a symbol. It's a heavy burden for any person to carry, but he's only 15.

It was established in the anime that at the start of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi Fushiguro is 15 years old. He is a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and is thus 15 years old. It is easy to see that Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki are his younger peers, while sorcerers who are adult are treated differently by Fushiguro. His power, his serious demeanor, it all mark him as being far more mature than your average teenager. But he is a kid, and the potential that he has, the weight of his clan and all that it entails, all of that is even more impactful because he is so very young. His approach to battle is calculated and sometimes even cold. But he is a kid. And as such, his methods are all the more impressive, or even more tragic, depending on how one looks at it. A 15-year-old kid making life-or-death decisions in the blink of an eye. That is a heavy load for anyone to bear, and all of the early struggles that he faces, particularly with saving people versus exorcising efficiently, are all that much more powerful because of it. By the end of the season, despite everything, Fushiguro is still largely the same 15-year-old kid that he was at the start. Just with a lot more emotional trauma and resolve packed into the few months that have passed.

Ok I'll go with 15. There are many ways to suggest age to a character without actually stating it and often designers will use many different methods to help portray the characters design and voice. For example, Megumi’s messy spiky hair is youthfully rebellious. His school uniform is almost always perfectly in place to show his serious nature, but as a school uniform it automatically brings to mind images of youth. He has very intelligent looking eyes but they lack the lines of stress and age that Nanami has for example. And even when listening to his voiced lines (subbed and dubbed) his voice sounds very youthful, even when saying cold and analytical lines. I think that subliminally his youthfulness is always suggested to the viewer, even when he is doing very adult things, for example risking his life. This is one of the reasons he is such a great and memorable character because the contrasts between his youth and adulthood are always so consciously drawn.

I find the fact that a simple number such as fifteen can hold so much weight for Megumi to be fascinating. The number does not simply refer to his chronological age. Rather, it is fifteen with the power to summon entities from myth, the son of a legendary assassin, the brother of a girl in a coma, and a commodity the clan hopes to cash in on. However, his chronological age is constantly at odds with his experiential age. The simple fact is that he has seen far more death and tragedy than the average adult. And as a result, he is forced to grow up prematurely. It’s nice to see glimpses of normal 15-year-old Megumi in moments such as his flashbacks with Tsumiki and his slight embarrassment in scenes with Gojo. However, the fact is that he is a child soldier written with such nuance. The simple fact is that he is extremely strong, but he is also woefully vulnerable at times. And yet the story never fails to remind us that despite it all, he is still just a kid learning and struggling to do the right thing in a world that is horribly wrong. That is why I think he is so lovable. His age is constantly mentioned throughout the story, and it is second only to his name as the most important fact about him.

Is Fugou Tea Master 15 or 16 in terms of school year? I get those mixed up. Given that we see him at the beginning of the story, I believe him to be 15 years old. Manga data books, as well as fan-made wikis, support this and note that he is 15 at the start of the work. Much like he is an old 30 year old man, often grumpy, the young Master is quite opposite to that in his relentless pursuit ofiets with Itadori. His birthday is in December, which would likely make him one of the older students in his class year. However, that would only place him at 16 for the rest of the first season, not 15. This is very important to understand his past with Tsumiki and his father, Toji, and how those experiences affected him. Most of those awful events happened when he was even younger, though. We aren’t really treated to many monologues by Master about his age, though. His school uniform, and even Gojo’s way of treating the young man as if he were a protégé, while also enjoying to tease the boy, really show just how much his childhood as a child soldier has affected his life, and helped to shape his rather shy nature. He’s a child soldier in every sense of the word, and the story makes that very clear, even when he’s created giant divine dogs or is controlling complex domains.
