Is One Night With The Alpha King A Standalone Book?

Oh wow! That took me back. This book is actually called ‘One Night With the Alpha King’ which I stumbled upon late one night while indulging in a reading frenzy. This particular book is written in a style similar to that found in many werewolf romantic novels and is part of a larger universe. As for whether it can be read as a stand alone, yes it can. It focuses mainly on the two main characters and their relationship. There are also other books in the universe by the same author and I thoroughly enjoyed them. As for this particular book, the two main characters are endearing and once you have finished reading it, you will want to know more about the side characters. I personally immediately Googled to find out whether there were any more books and more specifically whether we would be learning more about the characters in other books, such as the pack politics and all the side characters mentioned throughout the novel. It is written in a style that is easy to pick up without prior knowledge of the universe, but once you have started you will find yourself wanting to read all of the others as well! I lent this to a friend who has never read anything in this genre before and she absolutely loved it and had it read in one sitting! She had no problem following along and loved it just as much as I did. In fact, I think she enjoyed it even more as it was her first foray into this type of novel and she loved it just as it was – blissfully unaware of all the other novels and their relationship to this one.

On the other hand, if you are the type of reader to need all of the plot threads to be tied up neatly before you consider a story “done”, then there may be some disappointment in not reading the rest of the series first. However, there are lots of subtle references to the broader pack politics that could prompt you to pick up the other books in order to learn more about them, as well as a number of side characters who clearly have their own stories to tell. But all in all, One Night With the Alpha King is a perfectly self-contained, very Guilty Pleasure Read that has a wonderful HEA. I lent this to a friend who has never read anything in this genre and she read it in one night – getting all of the alpha male growls and possessive vibes that she clearly loved.

I can confirm 'One Night With the Alpha King' is a stand alone story. The plot is centered around that one explosive night and the after math. We get enough backstory to understand the main characters but no more than that. I loved how the author managed to create a new world without getting into too much detail – perfect for new readers to the series. As for the rest of the series, while the central story to this book concludes nicely, the rest of the universe is left open with much to be explored. I'm particularly interested to see more of the beta with the mysterious scar and the exiled rogue.

In comparison to eating a cupcake I can say that One Night With the Alpha King is similar to eating the cupcake but then being able to look at the whole bakery. While the book was complete and satisfied my desire for this particular story I am now curious about the rest of the bakery. The book’s pacing is great and focuses on the two main characters and their very fiery relationship. There are no cliffhangers at the end that make you desperate to continue reading the series. If you’re someone who doesn’t like series where each book feels incomplete until the next then this isn’t the book for you. Instead it’s a closed door with windows that you can look into if you want.

For one, One Night With the Alpha King is totally a stand alone read. You can start with this one and get a complete story, from the first hot night between the main characters to the struggles and then bonding they go through. I will admit, I didn't want it to end, but I felt it was completely wrap up-able. In other words, there is no 'to-be-continued' feeling that many paranormal romances fall into.

Of course, the author throws out enough tidbits of information about the other characters to want to read their stories too, but he does a great job of giving readers a snapshot of the larger world while still completing the main couple’s story in a satisfying manner. So while ‘One Night With the Alpha King’ is part of a larger universe of stories, it’s perfectly fine to read as a standalone novel, no commitment to a trilogy required!
