For something as easy as this to convert, EPUB is generally the better choice, as it is an open standard and reflows nicely for e-readers, tablets, and phone screens. PRC is an older format that is primarily associated with older Kindle models and isn’t really used anymore for current releases. If you are digging through archives for older works, you might run across a PRC file or two, but for anything current, EPUB is the way to go. I recently came across ‘The Crown Prince Reino de Filipinas Series (Tagalog)’ available as an EPUB on a few sites and was able to read it on my phone – a historical fantasy series where a prince tries to navigate court politics in a reimagined Philippine kingdom.

There has been a lot of debate in the world of digital books between the PRC format and the more popular EPUB format. I have used both formats and can give you a few details about the older Palm Resource File, known as PRC. The main differences between PRC and the more modern format of EPUB are that PRC is typically used for older Palm hand helds while the more popular EPUB format is compatible with almost any device and is able to hold a lot more when it comes to reflowable text. I was forced to convert a PRC formatted book to an EPUB formatted book in order to read it on my Kindle, and it worked beautifully thanks to programs such as Adobe Digital Editions and Calibre.

EPUB also supports so much more than PRC. PRC can handle embedded images and hyperlinks, but these are displayed in a much less attractive way. In addition to that, EPUB also supports other media such as reflowable text, background images, animations and interactive elements. The support for these types of media is what makes EPUB so perfect for graphic novels and other textbooks with lots of images and many pages. Reading manga in EPUB is so much better than reading it in PRC, for example. The images are displayed so much better and the layout of the comic is preserved much better.

Of course, there are some merits to using PRC files. For one, they’re much smaller than their EPUB counterparts, which makes them great for people with limited storage on their e-readers. I do know that some of the older e-readers on the market (as well as a few of the more niche units) can read PRC files better than their EPUB counterparts. However, with most publishers releasing their eBooks in EPUB format these days, and even Amazon slowly but surely switching to EPUB format for their MOBI files to be read on their Kindle e-readers, I really see no reason to be releasing eBooks in PRC format anymore, unless you have some very old content that you simply must release in PRC format. As for me, I’ve been slowly converting all of my PRC files to their EPUB counterparts, and I have to say that it’s really made my eBook reading experience so much better. And the best part about it is that there are tons of free tools out there, like Calibre, that can easily convert your PRC files to EPUB for you.

However, regional accessibility also has to be considered here. In many regions of the world, older e-readers that only read PRC formats are still in circulation due to the low price they can be purchased for second hand. The “better” e-book format is often the one that is compatible with the cheapest device available to buy. This is a privilege that many people wouldn’t dream of. Debating specs for e-readers is all well and good, but for many people the device is only functional if they can afford to buy it in the first place.

In the end, a file format is just a tool, and the best tool is one that works well, is available everywhere, and is supported by a community. For ebooks in 2024, EPUB is that tool. PRC might be used to read old ebooks on some old e-readers, but that is about it. For nearly all people, EPUB is the best tool for reading digital books.

Yes, I remember. First you had to 'activate' your device to read PRC files with Mobipocket. And then there was the DRM, bound to the device ID. Not easy. But nowadays, even Adobe’s DRM for EPUB is a pain, yet it’s mostly based on user accounts, so you can read your books on all your devices. The user experience for this file format has improved dramatically.

How to fix formatting issues when converting epub to pdf?

8 Answers2025-05-29
For extremely academic content with lots of citations and a bibliography, proper formatting is crucial. Inline citations ([1,2]) have to be rendered as superscript and the bibliography has to be complete and not messed up by the converter. You can use ‘Extra CSS’ to style common citation patterns. For example, will style all tags with the class “citation”. Also, make sure the converter recognizes the bibliography as a separate section and not as just more paragraphs. You can help the converter by marking the bibliography’s heading tag (e.g. ) as a major division in the ‘Structure Detection’ settings. This will then also ensure proper page breaks before the bibliography.

Which has better barrel life 6.5 prc vs 7 prc?

Thanks for the thorough and accurate replies from people who actually know what they're talking about. As someone new to long-range shooting brought over from the world of fantasy RPGs, it's wonderful to get practical and in-depth information here as opposed to the typical 'just get a 6.5 Creedmoor' type of posts. The trade-offs involved in choosing between power and barrel life are obvious and appreciated. It's similar to choosing between a powerful spell that does lots of damage but has a long cooldown/very high mana cost versus a more balanced/spammable spell that may not do as much damage per shot but gets the job done in the end.

Is paperback vs hardcover better for collectors?

10 Answers2025-09-21
Another cultural snapshot aspect of collectible paperbacks is that, especially from certain eras, covers display the best of the graphic design, marketing and most popular aesthetics of the time. So in many ways, collecting the vintage paperbacks from a certain decade or genre is a way to collect historical pieces from that time. A 1970s sci-fi paperback with a very psychedelic cover would be far more historical than the more conservative hardcover art. For someone who is using their book collecting as a way to focus on a certain time period or genre of literature, paperbacks are often the primary historical documents of that time. Paperbacks are time capsules.

is epub.pub safe

10 Answers2025-08-02
Simple. No frills. No features. That’s how safety is built into a system. The more complex a platform is, the more code it contains and the more features it has. And the more vulnerabilities it has. This service enables upload of files, their conversion to required format and their hosting. Fewer components – and thus fewer things that can go wrong and cause harm – is the main idea here. Sure enough, the lack of features means no safety net. No history of versions, no restore from backups, no customer support of any kind. But a minimal set of features means a lean, extremely predictable experience. Whether that’s good for you or not depends on your level of self-reliance.

What formats does Google Play Books publish support?

Emergency excitement was added to my book collection recently with the addition of Google Play Books. Support for formats such as EPUB and PDF is offered to cater for most readers. Whether you read books on your tablet or join a community discussing the best edition of a manga, Google Play Books offers support. The accessibility feature for audiobooks is also fantastic. For someone like myself that loves to be able to read books of all genres, there is a huge selection available at your fingertips. Happy reading!

How to fix reading epub on mac formatting issues?

9 Answers2025-08-08
Note that problems with DRM can also manifest as formatting issues. I had trouble with a purchased EPUB file (with Adobe DRM protection) lately. Problems seemed to stem from a wonky authorization status of my Adobe ID in the reading app. To verify the status of your Adobe ID, go to Preferences > General in Apple Books and look for the ID in the list. For other reading apps, check the relevant account settings. In extreme cases, a corrupted DRM protection might even prevent opening of the EPUB file. However, in some cases it will open, but with some really ugly styling. The only fix is to download a brand new copy of the book from the store – preferably one that was downloaded in authorized state in the first place. That’s why I try to avoid purchasing DRM-protected EPUBs and instead opt for stores that offer DRM-free versions of many books, like Kobo.

Which has better fights: Bleach vs Naruto 500 characters?

7 Answers2026-04-02
Naruto LONG TERM PAYOFF! This is basically all Naruto is! So Naruto plants a tag on Zabuza way back in the first major story arc. Then THE SAME TECHNIQUE is referenced all through the series, hundreds of episodes later and used in completely clever ways. Establishing fight mechanics and having them build off each other is probably the most important thing in long-running series. Bleach had some really cool concepts that just got abandoned, though. Ichigo was supposed to be able to absorb Getsuga Tensho, for one. And then there were the Fullbring powers, which were all so much fun. But in the final arc, there were just so many Sternritter with “The” abilities that just got instantly negated. It felt really messy. And in a long-running series, fights should all feel connected and like different pieces of a puzzle. Even with all of its plot holes, Naruto’s fights tend to fit together pretty well.

Best sites for light novels in EPUB format?

4 Answers2025-08-19
For a specific slice of the genre, check out Royal Road (web novel, mostly free) or Scribble Hub (web novel, free). Many successful authors now offer for free download the compiled EPUB for the completed arcs or volumes of their work, either on the story page or through their Patreon. Note that quality can vary greatly from author to author, but there are some absolute gems in the progression fantasy and litRPG genres. For example, “Mother of Learning” and “The Wandering Inn” started out as web novels, and their EPUBs are available for free download.

Download textbooks for free pdf vs. buying: which is better?

5 Answers2025-08-13
For someone who is constantly traveling, I prefer to have 10 PDFs on one tablet instead of lugging 10 heavy books with me. For in-depth studying, however, I do miss the ability to bookmark a page in a physical copy of a book. Free PDFs are great supplements to what you’ve already purchased. For example, the e-book that I had purchased was missing an index, so I was able to search for what I needed in a free PDF copy of the book. My ideal would be for publishers to offer a digital copy with every physical copy that they sell. Until that day comes, it’s best to use both formats wisely.

Do best ebook platforms allow offline reading?

8 Answers2025-08-19
Oh the humanity if we couldn't read our books offline, we'd probably revolt. As it stands, offline reading of stories and information is a basic accessibility feature, and (big) companies know that not everyone has reliable, affordable internet connection all the time. They’d like you to read their e-books everywhere, not just when you have phone signal. Which is why they’ve set things up so that by default you get to download the book. The option to Remove Download is secondary, but they want to make it easy for you to experience the better way of reading a book – that which is stored locally on your device and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
