Is Ralts A Good Pokémon For Competitive Battles?

From a more technical angle, Ralts’ viability really depends on the meta. In earlier generations, it was borderline unusable in competitive play until it evolved. These days, with abilities like Synchronize or Trace, and access to moves like Calm Mind or Shadow Ball, Gardevoir can be a nightmare for certain teams. But let’s be real—its Speed stat isn’t the best, and without proper EV training, it’ll get outsped by a lot of common threats like Gengar or Weavile.

Gallade, on the other hand, brings a different flavor. With Close Combat and Psycho Cut, it can tear through opponents, but its Defense is shaky. Mega Gallade was a beast in its time, but now? It’s harder to justify over other Fighting or Psychic types. Still, if you’re building a team around psychic or fairy synergy, Ralts’ final forms can pull their weight. Just don’t expect them to be top-tier without serious team support.

Ralts has always been one of those Pokémon that tugs at my heartstrings—adorable, with those big, soulful eyes. But when it comes to competitive battles, I’ve had mixed experiences. Its evolution line, especially Gardevoir and Gallade, can be absolute powerhouses if used correctly. Gardevoir’s Psychic/Fairy typing gives it a solid edge against Dragon and Fighting types, and with moves like Moonblast or Psychic, it can hit hard. But Ralts itself? It’s a bit of a glass cannon early on. You really need to baby it until it evolves into Kirlia, and even then, it’s not until Gardevoir or Gallade that it truly shines.

That said, I’ve seen some niche strategies where trainers focus on breeding Ralts for perfect IVs and egg moves, then evolving it strategically. A Gardevoir with Trace can be hilarious against opponents relying on abilities like Intimidate. And Gallade’s physical attack stats? Brutal with the right setup. But it’s not a Pokémon you can just throw into any team—it needs support, like a good tank to cover its weaknesses. If you’re willing to put in the work, though, Ralts’ line can be incredibly rewarding. Just don’t expect it to carry you through a tournament solo.

I love Ralts—it’s such a nostalgic Pokémon for me, especially after using it in 'Ruby'. But competitive? It’s a gamble. Early-game, it’s fragile, and even later, it requires careful play. Gardevoir’s Special Attack is stellar, and Gallade’s physical moves pack a punch, but they’re not without flaws. If you’re up for the challenge, though, they can be fun picks.
