Are There Any Sequels To The Key To Rebecca?

Wait, you guys are sleeping on Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman. Yeah, it's not a direct "what happened next" to Maxim and the narrator, but it's way more interesting imo. It's set 20 years later and is basically a mystery about Rebecca's past, with multiple POVs, including her actual diary. The du Maurier estate even approved it. It paints Rebecca in a totally different, more sympathetic light, which du Maurier herself said she never intended to do... but I kinda love it? It's messy and revisionist, but it answers way more of the "key mysteries" than Hill's book ever did.

Ever since I managed to get my hands on my old CD for “Heretic” I’ve been doing some reading up on the game’s legacy. The sequels to “Heretic” are “Hexen: Beyond Heretic” and “Hexen II” and essentially they are darker, meatier versions of the original with much more lore to the world of the game as well as much more difficult and creepy bosses. There’s also “Heretic II” which is an oddball third-person Isometric POV game that even to this day causes a large divide in the fans of the series. My personal favorite in the Heretic-series of games is “Hexen” due to the very dark, very twisted and very, very long and winding levels that snaked about in very unique and moody ways. I wish Raven Software would make a new game set in this very dark world.

Killing Adeline continues the story of the original Haunting Adeline in new and interesting directions. It is even possible to enjoy this sequel if you didn’t read Haunting Adeline first. This book continues to follow the story of Adeline, finding out more about her and discovering some very surprising events along the way. I read Killing Adeline within two days of starting it – it is a very engaging read. The story is very immersive with lots of well-drawn scenes. It’s easy to get caught up in the story as the tension increases with higher and higher stakes as the story unfolds. Fans of suspenseful sequels will find lots of dark content and also a greater exploration of the main characters in this book. In fact, I was on the edge of my seat reading this the whole time.

Hmmm, Legacy. At the beginning of the novel he is the guardian of the de Winter legacy at Manderley, a legacy going back centuries and more. By the end of the novel that legacy is nothing more than smoldering ruins. He has no heir, no home. The legacy is dead. He changes from being the guardian of legacy to being its terminator. The novel shows his profound failure of his aristocratic duty and that of his class. He changes from a preserver to a destroyer. Not just of one life, but of an entire way of life and of the centuries old legacy of inheritance that went with it. The weight of that is enormous and it is only just implied in the text.

Anyone else find it difficult to follow the publication order of the realsequels as opposed to the original trilogy by Barbara Taylor Bradford? ‘A Woman of Substance’ was published in 1979, followed by ‘Hold the Dream’ in 1984 and ‘To Be the Best’ in 1988. After that, there was a return to Douglas flowing, some thirteen years later in 2003, when ‘Emma’s Secret’ was published, introducing readers to modern-day Linnet O’Neill, a descendant of Emma, in a new series of realsequels to A Woman of Substance. When people refer to the sequels, they are more likely to be thinking of ‘Hold the Dream’ and ‘To Be the Best’ (published as realsequels many years after the original trilogy) as opposed to the rest of the 2000s novels which form a spin-off sequel series. The dates for the novels and the development of the characters over the years form a complex maze! The 80s books first please, for direct continuation of the Emma story.

I fell in love with this beautifully written book ‘The Promise’ by Pam Jenoff because of its honesty and the beautifully flawed main characters in the book. Although there are no sequels to this book, Pam Jenoff wrote other books like ‘The Memory Keeper’ and ‘The Silent Echo’ which have a similar feel and emotional intensity to ‘The Promise’. ‘The Memory Keeper’ in particular is a spiritual successor to ‘The Promise’ with its focus on forgiveness and second chances. As for more stories that pack the same emotional punch, I highly recommend reading the author’s short story collection, Whispers in the Dark. It is filled with wonderful stories of love, loss and redemption. While none of them are direct sequels to The Promise, they are all distant cousins in a sense and would likely resonate with readers who loved The Promise. Again, I feel that the author does an incredible job of evoking emotions in his readers and as a result, he is an author that I always make time to read.

No. I'm good with that. The movie exists and is fun to watch. So, there is no need for the movie to be expanded. Not every story needs to be developed into a long, sprawling film. The need for more in our culture is exhausting. Let this fun and simple comedy be what it is: a short and sweet film that is a complete package in and of itself. It is a complete film, in the sense that you get to see it, laugh at it, and feel good about it. And sometimes that is enough. You don’t need to be sat down and forced to think about other films in order to get the most out of it. It is a cinematic snack. Most people go to the cinema to see films as ‘snacks’ rather than as seven-course meals. You don’t need a sequel to your bag of chips.

I also read somewhere that Radcliffe was going to do a sequel from the landlady's point of view but couldn't write it because then she would be too human. He said that he couldn’t give her an internal monologue because then she would be less of a force of nature and less of a monster. There are a few interesting interview clips online where Radcliffe discusses this conundrum.

No. ‘Mort’ is a single work. However, Mort and Death both appear in ‘Reaper Man’ which explores Death in greater depth than ‘Mort’. Although ‘Reaper Man’ is not a direct sequel to ‘Mort’, it does return to the same world and characters, and hence is recommended to fans of ‘Mort’ for more Pratchett wit and insight.

I'm so not ready for a sequel to this book. Right now I'm just trying to recover from the blow this book delivered. This book was harsh. In the grocery store. With letters. I'm a mess. I'm not sure my heart could handle another round of this with a sequel. Colleen Hoover so adeptly finds the most sensitive of emotional nerves and proceeds to poke at them. "Reminders of Him" did a phenomenal job of that. I need to let this sit and mature for a couple of years and then perhaps return to it as a female in her 40s with a sturdier heart. For now, I need fluffy romances that will not devastate me. Bedside Table Books type stuff. For now.
