When setting up a new place to live, the person sharing your bed needs clear boundaries but should otherwise be left to themselves. Even a temporary measure such as a rotation of who sleeps in the bed and who uses a spare mattress would help to ease tension. Otherwise, it is simply a matter of keeping shared spaces clean and neat to avoid exacerbating problems. Yeah, this is one of those indie films. But it exists in real life too, and it’s generally a good idea to be practical and establish some boundaries. So first you have to figure out the sleeping arrangements. Are you all sharing one bed or is there a couch or even an air mattress to sleep on? If you’re all sleeping in a pretty small space, wear the most comfortable, modest pajamas you have.

Perhaps establishing a ‘lights out’ time would be good. Of course this would mean that no late night conversations would take place and this may be difficult for some. However, this is temporary and I am sure you will be able to handle it. It may also be useful to try to get to know her boyfriend better, perhaps by playing a game or watching a film before bedtime. It will be weird at first but I am sure you will soon get used to it.

Let's face it, sleeping in your cousin's bed with her and her boyfriend can be slightly awkward, but the experience can be made lots more bearable if you and everyone else concerned establishes some house rules. Communication is the key to a pleasant stay and that includes talking about each other's boundaries of discomfort and coming to an agreement prior to sleep as to who will take up which area of the bed and whether or not someone will be sleeping on a makeshift pallet in the room.

Of course it is possible to suggest other alternatives. Maybe you can switch every now and then so the other person can sleep on the floor. Or you could split the cost of another bed. I think family members should be understanding and a little humor can solve a lot of problems.
