I've stumbled across a few stories that try to blend the 'Naruto' and 'Dragon Ball' universes, and honestly, the results can be pretty chaotic. The whole idea hinges on Naruto somehow accessing the Super Saiyan 4 transformation, which is already a massive power leap from his own world's logic. Authors usually have to create some wild scenario, like a dimensional crossover event or a latent Ōtsutsuki/Saiyan hybrid heritage reveal.
What stands out isn't just the golden fur and red aura—it's how they try to merge the chakra system with ki. I've seen fics where Naruto's Sage Mode or Kurama's chakra gets woven into the transformation, creating a 'Sage-Enhanced Super Saiyan 4' or a 'Bijū Mode SSJ4' where the red fur is streaked with black markings. The powers often become a weird combo of massive, city-leveling energy blasts (think a 'Super Tailed Beast Ball Rasenshuriken') and the raw, close-combat brutality of Dragon Ball.
The most unique twist I recall was a story that treated the transformation as a form of extreme Senjutsu, where Naruto had to balance natural energy, his own chakra, and Kurama's anger to maintain it. The 'power' was less about blowing up planets and more about a terrifying, precise control over force—he could theoretically use the Rasengan on a molecular level. It fell apart after twenty chapters, but the concept was fun while it lasted.
I read one where his SSJ4 form let him manipulate time within a localized 'Nine-Tails Chakra Field,' slowing down opponents' perceptions so his taijutsu looked like teleportation. It was a neat way to blend the speed of the form with ninja tactics. The author dropped it after a few updates, sadly. The potential was there for something more than another power fantasy.
Honestly, a lot of these stories feel like they're written by people who just want to see Naruto punch Madara into the sun, which... fair. The 'unique powers' usually aren't that unique. It's standard DBZ stuff—flying, energy sensing, crazy durability—grafted onto him. The interesting part is how his existing jutsu might evolve. I saw one fic where his Shadow Clones in SSJ4 form could each go SSJ3, which was utterly broken and the author had to write himself out of that corner by chapter ten.
Another attempted a fusion with the Eight Gates, calling it 'Super Saiyan 4 Gate of Death.' Naruto's body was disintegrating from the strain even as he fought, which was a decent source of drama. Most of the time, though, the 'power' is just an excuse for escalation, and the stories forget that Naruto's appeal was never about being the strongest in a pure muscle sense. They skip the cleverness.
Most of these fics just copy Goku's look and call it a day, which is boring. If you're gonna do a crossover power, make it fit the character. The few good ones I've read gave Naruto a version that relies on his bond with Kurama—like the transformation is triggered by a mutual, desperate need to protect Konoha, not just rage. The red aura might burn with orange chakra flames, and his 'Big Bang Attack' equivalent is just a gargantuan Rasengan he can form instantly.
Sometimes they incorporate the Sharingan or Rinnegan visuals into the SSJ4 eyes, which is a cool visual trick. The real unique power, though, is the narrative potential: a Naruto who has that kind of raw strength but still has to deal with ninja politics and deception. He could probably level a hidden village with a sneeze, but can he outsmart a well-laid trap? That tension often gets lost in the power-wank, but when an author remembers it, the story gets interesting.

Oh, crossing 'Naruto' with 'Dragon Ball' like that is a trip. Fans really go wild with this. The typical idea is Naruto accessing Super Saiyan 4 through some wild chakra mutation or maybe mixing Kurama's power with Saiyan biology. He'd get that iconic red fur and a major power boost, obviously, but it's rarely just that. Most stories twist it to fit his personality—maybe the tail is made of pure chakra, or the red fur flares like his Nine-Tails Cloak.
Some fics make it a huge emotional trigger, like losing a teammate for real, which feels a bit forced to me. Others get creative and have him use Sage Mode simultaneously, which is visually cool—imagine the red fur with those orange Sage markings. I've read one where he used this form to literally punch through dimensions, which was... a lot. Honestly, the powers become whatever the plot needs, but the fusion of the two aesthetics is usually the fun part for me.
I prefer when writers don't just make him a Goku clone, though. The best ones keep his fighting style, like using Shadow Clones even in that form, instead of just energy spam.
That concept doesn't exist in the actual 'Naruto' series, obviously, but it's a super common crossover idea with 'Dragon Ball Z' fanfiction. Most stories handle it by merging the two universes' power systems, which can get pretty creative—or incredibly messy depending on the writer.
I've read ones where Naruto discovers he has some hidden Saiyan ancestry, maybe because Kaguya or the Sage of Six Paths had connections to that race, and unlocking his full potential eventually lets him go SSJ4. Others skip the biology and treat it like a pure chakra transformation; he gathers such an insane amount of nature energy or Kurama's power that it mutates his body, giving him the red fur and primal look. The justification always ties back to his 'beast within' theme.
My favorite take was a story that framed SSJ4 not as a Saiyan thing, but as the ultimate jinchuriki state—total harmony with the Tailed Beast, represented by the physical hybrid form. It felt more thematically fitting for his character than just grafting Goku's power onto him.
Boy, the powers in those Naruto: The Gamer fics can get pretty out there. Obviously you've got the standard Gamer stuff like stats, skill books, and instant learning, but the ones that stick with me are the weirder ones. I read one where Naruto's Gamer ability let him see and manipulate 'relationship meters' with other characters, which basically turned the whole story into a social sim on top of the ninja stuff. It was a clever way to force character development he usually ignores.
Another weird power I've seen a few times is a 'glitch' or 'exploit' ability, where the protagonist can briefly break the rules of their own system. It's usually a last-resort thing with huge drawbacks, but it makes for a great panic button when the author writes themselves into a corner. Honestly, sometimes the most unique power is the one that lets the story itself function differently.
