Plot

The plot in "First love of the alpha" starts with Lily reminiscing about her father as she caught her mother (Raya) crying early in the morning, coincidentally on his death's anniversary. That same day, Raya had been summoned to head start the plan for Ben's welcome home party. This didn't sit well with Lily, who hadn't heard from Ben since he departed.

Ben and Lily were involved romantically since childhood, and their mutual love would endure throughout their teenage years. Nevertheless, Ben eventually had to leave in order to prepare for his role as Alpha. Both lovers had made an oath to keep their love afloat while geographically apart. Lily showed commitment and perseverance in keeping the oath, though the same can't be said regarding Ben, who was otherwise rather absent.

In the meantime, Brooklynn, initially indifferent, has shown increasing interest in Ben, to the point where she would turn hostile towards Lily, whom she saw as her greatest obstacle to getting to Ben and attaining Luna status. Thankfully, Lily always had the support of her friends Amber and Myles (the future gamma and one of Ben's closest friends as well) and would defend her unconditionally. As it pertains to Myles, he had been in love with Lily for a very long time (unbeknownst to Lily) and would progressively open up to her.

As Ben returns and Lily sorts out her feelings, that love she harbored for him may be in serious jeopardy.

Characters

Lily

Lily is a young she-wolf with a huge sense of commitment but wholly unaware of what goes on around her. Throughout the novel, amid all her struggles, she ultimately takes the reins of her own fate

Her wolf manifested very late in her life (nearing her adulthood). It had a very peculiar white fur, a strange phenomenon within her pack and one that would generate an aura of mystery regarding Lily's origins.

Ben

Ben is the young Alpha of the Black Moon pack who left in order to go to Alpha school, but he had been genuinely in love with Lily for most of his life. The novel builds up expectations about what his encounter with Lily would be like after his long disappearance, as well as what his current outlook on their relationship is, especially in light of the rumors that he was sleeping with Brooke behind Lily's back.

Myles

Myles is one of Ben's best friends and the pack's future gamma. He's very loyal, which is why he initially has a guilt trip regarding his feelings towards Lily, as that would place him on Ben's wrong side. Nevertheless, once he finds out what his friend did to her, that feeling wanes and he begins to express his love for Lily more straightforwardly.

Brooklynn (Brooke)

Brooke is a spoiled brat and an irredeemable she-devil focused on stealing Ben from Lily and becoming the next Luna. To achieve her goal, she's capable of doing the most despicable things to Lily.

Hot Chapters

Chapter 8

Myles and Lily were about to watch a movie after their hiking trip. Earlier that evening, she had received a text message from her mom saying she wouldn't be home that night since she and Luna Meghan were working late, but Lily didn't want Myles to know that. Nevertheless, they talked until around midnight.

Myles took the opportunity to ask her whether she'd be willing to pick a chosen mate in the event that she never finds the one destined for her, a question that left her dumbfounded, especially coming from Myles. After some hesitation, she answered affirmatively.

Soon after, they both fell asleep, but, when Myles woke up, he found Lily's head resting on his chest. He then remembered he had to go training early in the morning, yet, at the same time, he wanted to remain there and embrace Lily.

Chapter 9

Lily was heading to school to take her exams. Shortly after arriving there, she confronted Brooke, who derided her for presumably going after Myles and insinuated that she was sleeping with both. Of course, Lily denied these accusations, but Brooke told her there were photos posted all over social media of her lying with Myles.

Lily thought Brooke was bluffing, so she checked her socials and, to her surprise, there were indeed photos of her with Myles, tagged "pack wh*re." She wondered how Brooke could have taken those pics, so the best bet was that she was peeking through her window the whole time.

Later, after finding out she had passed the exam, Raya wanted to organize a celebration party and invited Lily's friends, including Myles. When Lily saw Myles and the way he was dressed, her wolf started drooling.

Theme

"First love of the Alpha," as the title suggests, is centered on first love and how people tend to experience it. Who doesn't hold memories of that first "special person"? It doesn't matter whether those memories are good or bad, but it's undeniable that those first romantic affairs leave a lasting (if not everlasting) impression on a person's mind.

The novel also stresses how we usually romanticize that first love and how hard it is for some people to admit defeat when it doesn't work. In Lily's case, this is exactly what happens, as she's bent on fulfilling an oath to her childhood crush while the other party doesn't seem so enthusiastic. Here, we could add the "unrequited love" theme into the mix.

Author Introduction

Leigh Kratz is the mother of four kids and describes herself as a stay-at-home mom, as well as a farmer. She loves reading and writing, as can be evidenced by her large bibliography, which includes books such as "Falling For The Beta," The Alpha Witch," and "Forgiving My Mate:" Judging from those titles, Leigh has a special ability to write enthralling Werewolf novels.

Writing Style

The writer relies a lot on trying to give out as much information as possible about the characters, their memories, and motivations. This has the advantage of giving readers enough data so that they can understand certain behaviors and events, though pacing can suffer as a result.

Point of View

The novel is wholly narrated from the characters' perspective, allowing us to peruse into their minds, feelings, and ambitions. Of course, this point of view renders the narration a bit more skewed, for they will only offer their own views on whatever is transpiring.

Conclusion

"First love of the alpha" is an impressive novel with a strong message aimed towards those struggling for the first time with romantic relationships. While the characters may seem cliché in some aspects, their arcs are not terribly offensive or generic (except for Brooke's, which is overly simplistic, in our opinion).

Lastly, we must caution readers about the novel's editing, since we were able to spot some typing errors. Nevertheless, these errors are few and far between, so they shouldn't disrupt your reading experience.
