CHAPTER 18 The room was filled with soft jazz, flickering candles, and rich laughter that didn’t belong to her. Selene sat still, her eyes on the woman across the table, the one who had walked in like she owned the world, like she still owned Damien. She is Tall, elegant, wrapped in red silk and smug. Her name was Clarissa, and the moment she laid eyes on Selene, she smiled like a cat about to devour a bird. “Oh,” Clarissa said sweetly, eyes drifting lazily over Selene’s dress, her tone full of poison, “You’re Damien’s… wife? I must say, that was unexpected”.

Someone had just opened the front door and stepped outside in a shade of red lipstick that was way too red for a morning like this. Clarissa. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun, her slender figure covered in a pair of shorts and a tank top. She raised her hand to wave at us, tilting her head as she descended the steps. “Seems your guest has already made herself comfortable,” I gritted out. “Don’t be cross,” Mutti scolded before she opened the door and stepped out of my car. “I can’t help them.” “You didn’t see anything?” “Nope.” She sipped the water again and nonchalantly shrugged at her mother’s question, “the cops can ask all the questions they want but I was knocked out from behind and saw nothing.” Fiamme gave a snicker and Delfina leaned sideways. “You and Carma came back early!” “We came to New York last night to knock some sense into this one,” Fiamme pushed Furio out of the way. “Move, you’re hogging her.”

I was already plating the scrambled eggs when I heard their voices. “Ugh, look at her,” Clarissa’s voice came through the kitchen entrance. She was the eldest of Dyson’s sisters, and by far the cruelest. “Still pretending to be useful even when she looks like a whale.” Denise laughed, leaning against the marble island. “Pregnancy really ruined her, didn’t it? The gates opened, and a figure walked in. Clair had to look twice to ensure her eyes were not playing tricks on her. “Dama!” She watched her maid walk in gracefully, like she was some pristine guest. Clair dragged the last puff and tossed the cigarette to the floor as she hurried downstairs.

The door creaked open, revealing a dim, musty room with rough stone walls. Chains clinked softly from inside. Clarissa sat cross-legged on the floor, her once-lustrous hair matted and tangled. Her eyes, milky and clouded, stared blankly ahead. She was pale, thinner. Yet something about her still radiated quiet strength. She tilted her head. “Helen.” Her voice was calm. Too calm.

Agnes asked, leaning against the doorframe. “Sherlock’s taking me to his company today. When I walk in, I want every single person to turn and stare. I wasn’t born to be ordinary,” Clarissa said with a confident smirk. “And that’s the spirit,” Agnes grinned. Clarissa glanced at the time on her Rolex. “Ugh, I’m almost late. That old man’s been waiting forever,” she huffed, grabbing her sunglasses and rushing out. Agnes simply watched her go, shaking her head.

She got up, and asked the servant to clear the table while she went up the stairs to Lucian's room, she knock slightly on the door but there was no response. She paces up and down in front of the door. Dylan who was heading downstairs meet Clarissa pacing up and down and he wondered why. Clarissa almost bump into Dylan, " Oh my goodness! " she yelled startled at the sight of someone. "Are you okay?" Dylan said as he placed a comforting hand on Clarissa's shoulder.
