Turning I walk into the living and stop when I see Ashton. Screaming I run to him, someone pulling me back. "He's fine." Turning, I look at Diesel. "What the fuck happened?" The blood is Ashton's. Diesel keeps hold of me so I can't get to him. "Sugar, go to bed." Emmett steps in front of me and my head shakes. "Okay, sit with him, but don't get in the doctor's way." "What happened?" I'm fed up of being told nothing. "Some people from the city over showed up. Ashton was alone, and they beat him. He's fine and will be sore, but fine. Diesel, go with them as Grayson isn't thinking." Emmett looks at him and he walks off.

Tessa exclaims and I hand her the keys that I took from the house before we stepped out. “Okay, captain,” I reply to her, and she smirks. The both of us get into the car and Tessa drives us to Ashton’s house, a very huge, luxurious mansion. I can already hear the music blaring loudly as Tessa parks the car in front of the huge house. “Wow, it’s more alive than I thought,” I mumble as I stare out the window. There are so many people, some are dancing and most are drinking tons of alcohol. This is not really my scene, but I would not be able to forgive myself if I miss the night that Ashton Martins found his mate!

Like it had been designed to swallow you whole. Voices came from somewhere deeper. I followed them without thinking too hard about it. Bad idea. But curiosity is a stupid thing. It doesn’t ask permission. I stopped near an open doorway. Gideon was inside. And he wasn’t alone. The man from the bar was there too. Ashton. Forehead tattoo. Too bright energy in a room that didn’t need brightness. He was leaning against a counter like he had no concept of personal space or consequence. “Six AM and she’s already inside your house,” Ashton said, amused. “That’s progress or possession. Depends how romantic you want to sound.”

Ashton was a bit surprised the man hadn't put up a flight, but all the better. Silence returned. Ashton stood there for a long moment before heading to the bathroom. He showered until the water ran cold, scrubbing until his skin burned. When he returned, he picked up the invitation again, he read it once more. Then crushed it in his palm. “Fuck you, Damien,” he muttered. He thought of that man, that monster in pristine suite that looked down at the world like it was dirt beneath his feet. Ashton swore to himself, Damien would die by his hands or he would die trying.

OUTSIDE… The driver of the black sedan dialed a number to report and the person on the other line was not happy with what he heard and disconnected the call immediately. BACK at the pub… Ashton drinks his whiskey silently while waiting for his date. Soon, he receives a message that the woman he is supposed to hang out with can’t come. “Fucking hell!” He yelled internally. Shortly, a lady with long black hair sat beside him. The moment Ashton saw her, he smiled awkwardly. “Linnea?” He uttered in a low voice. The lady smiled from ear to ear. “I’m happy you still remember me.” She replied, then extended her hand to reach his.

ASHTON Against my misguided judgment, my ‘run into things without thinking it through’ attitude, we go back to the complex giving me more time to prepare. Black Lagoon is the shadiest underground club in Moss Creek. Admission is tough to get and those who enter don’t always come out the same…or come out at all.

SEVEN YEARS AFTER THE GREAT WAR Ashton stormed through the house, his massive stomach leading the way. "Where are they? Where are those little monsters?" he bellowed, his face red with rage. "Oh, may the gods help me, I will beat the hell out of them if I catch them!" Theo watched in amusement at his mate's antics, but he knew better than to intervene when Ashton was in a state. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but intervened... "Baby... slow down, please!" he cautioned, trying to placate his mate.

Ashton glanced at me, and I quickly shut my eyes, pretending to still be asleep. He got up quietly and stepped out to the balcony to answer the call. "Hello? I'm in Zionsville. I'll head back once I'm done here. If you're not feeling well, call Dr. Somner. I can't treat you even if I return." I almost burst out laughing at his dismissive tone. After ending the call, Ashton came back inside. I faked waking up just as he approached. He touched my forehead gently. "Still feeling sick?"

He sighed and touched him. "Yes?" Romeo replied, opening his eyes and removing the earphone from his ear. "Let's go." Ashton groaned and went to enter his car. Romeo sighed and stood up, walking to his car. Ashton drive out of the parking lot before he followed behind him wondering where he was taking him to. Ashton drove for about thirty minutes before entering a hospital. Romeo wanted to protest and ask him what he was doing at the hospital but he kept his cool.

His usually stoic face was etched with something new – grim urgency. "Ashton." Jensen skidded to a halt, mud splattering. He dispensed with the title, his tone grave. "We found something. South-southeast, near the Black Rock boundary." Ashton’s heart stopped. The world narrowed to Jensen’s rain-streaked face. "What?" The single word was a hoarse scrape.
