11 September 2001, yang juga dikenal sebagai peristiwa 9/11, adalah titik balik peta perpolitikan dunia. Sejak hari tersebut, situasi geopolitik, terutama untuk umat muslim di dunia, tidak pernah lagi sama. Rais Hoetomo adalah seorang ilmuwan dan juga pengusaha berkebangsaan Indonesia-Amerika. Peristiwa 9/11 yang dialaminya secara langsung membuatnya berpikir ulang dan mencari jawaban atas semua pertanyaan yang menghantui dirinya. Pertanyaan - pertanyaan tentang tujuan ia dilahirkan, serta apa yang harus dilakukannya sebagai seorang Muslim.
