"I'm sorry, but it would be better if you leave me alone. My husband doesn't likes if I interact with strangers," I spoke up.

CHAPTER 4 Lyra's POV The stranger smiled, and Jesus, it wrecked me. That hard face, so sharp and ruthless, went soft around the edges. Like sin dipped in honey. “Does it really matter?” he asked slowly, his voice smooth as bourbon. “Tonight, we are just two broken souls hiding in plain sight.” Fair. “Then here’s to strangers,” I replied, raising my glass with a shaky hand. “To strangers,” he echoed, clinking his glass against mine.

It was peaceful. “Do you miss her?” Patra asked quietly. She did not look up from her knitting. “I worry about her,” he said. “I hope she is safe. I hope Jack leaves her alone. But being here.. it feels right. It feels like I have come home after being lost for a long time.” Patra looked up then. “This is your home, Kelvin. Always. You and Mark are my family. I felt like I could no longer hold back as the tingling sensation continued to escalate. “Why hasn’t she picked up the phone yet? She curls against my side like everything is normal. I let her. But the image of her smiling up at that stranger stays behind my eyes the entire night. I barely sleep.
