They were rebels fighting against the G.H.C cruelty And the children? They were collateral damage.” My chest tightened, bile rising in my throat. “You’re lying,” I hissed. “There must have been a reason. A threat, something—he wouldn’t just—”

A kingdom’s ransom glittered from every surface, yet she sat there wondering if she even belonged at the table. Polished chalices gleamed beside towering obsidian candelabras. Laughter rose and fell like waves from the far end of the hall, where dragonkin nobles dined more loudly, more freely. Children danced in wide loops near the fire pits, their bright eyes reflecting the flicker of flames as they spun to music that pulsed with wild, ancient rhythms—notes that Sera couldn’t name but felt in her bones. A low, rhythmic drumbeat echoed beneath the chatter, matched by the jingling of silver bangles and trailing silks as dragonkin mothers and daughters moved in celebration.

Out of kindness, someone had already ordered a giant cake to surprise him. It was the first time Ryder had ever had such a lively birthday party. Surrounded by children and laughter, he was lost in joy. That was when Michael appeared. He arrived in a pressed suit, carrying a huge LEGO set. Spotting Ryder, he swept him up into the air. "Son, Daddy’s finished with work. I made it just in time for your birthday!" The words were smooth and affectionate, as if he had come only to celebrate and hadn’t missed everything else.

Two Dragons appeared out of nowhere, fighting each other in midair. Teeth and claws slashing and biting, while shooting green lightning and red fireballs. Catori laid on the freezing ground, shivering, staring at the sky. She watched while the two beasts clashed. Seeming to move impossibly fast, unaware of her down below, watching them. They disappeared just as quickly as they appeared, forgetting that they weren’t to be seen out in the open with the potential of exposing themselves to the humans.

Maybe it was just the fact of her being 'that' person that had been enough to make him feel that way. "Quit it, Johann. Doesn't matter if I do find her attractive, she's engaged already." Johann's eyes widen in shock. "She is!?" he screamed but later became conscious of the sleeping girl beside him. "Yes, I heard the guy's a powerful half-dragon who's been with her since the previous war." "Man, that's tough." His shoulder instantly dropped, his body collapsed into the bed with arms wide open. . lifelessly. An immediate defeat, was it?

Boro and Mika stood in the sand circle as the two finalists. The animosity between the two was so thick in the air it was almost palpable. Boro stood in the ready form, Crane In The Water, standing perfectly balanced on one leg, his sword held out before him. Mika stood in a form that Boro didn't recognize. Boro prided himself on knowing all the forms of classical, and modern, sword art, the fact he didn't recognize this one was puzzling.

Dawn blew a raspberry at that. “Hardly. It has an itty bitty baby dragon named Norbert but that’s it”, she said “nothing like the badass Hungarian Horntail” Dawn rolled over onto her stomach “hey, you do think dragons are real? That would be so cool”.

Drake's POV Frustration simmered within me—I couldn’t get anywhere with Opal. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t lay a finger on her to force the answers I needed. The cold wind bit at my skin as I trudged through the snow, summoning the heat of my magic. Flames roared to life, consuming the corpses. It was the least I could do—to pay my respects, as one dragon honoring another. Even if they weren’t pure dragons, but hybrids or even just half-dragons, it didn’t matter. The fire was a rite, a farewell.
