I smiled at him and he disappeared on the spot the same way he appeared. I looked at the book and sat down on the carpeted floor. I was ready to learn and I looked at the drawing on the cover page. It wasn't a drawing per se but more of an engraving. It seemed to be calling to me and I touched it. It was a circle with drawings inside it and there was a spiral shape that has three points that emanated from the middle and I touched it and without knowing where a needle or sharp object came from since I hadn't seen any on the book, I felt my finger get pricked and before I could take it back, blood had already trickled on the book and I heard a clicking sound and there was light all around the

When I finished she was quiet for a moment. "That's the one," she said. "Which one." "The passage I told you to look for. The reason I recommended it." She paused. "Some books have one passage that justifies the whole thing. That's it." I looked at it again. She was right. The rest of the book was good. That passage was something else. "How did you know it was there," I said. "Because the writer earned it. You can feel when a writer has been building toward something." She looked at the ceiling. "The whole book is just architecture for those eleven sentences."

𝐏𝐎𝐕 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐀 I was reading a book when I realized I hadn’t understood a single line. The book remained open on my lap. My eyes moved across the words, line after line, but nothing made sense. It was as if I was only passing over them… without truly absorbing anything. I let out a soft sigh. I turned the page anyway. Automatic. The room was silent.

If there was an answer anywhere… It would be here. I searched through the oldest section first, carefully running my fingers across cracked leather bindings faded by time. One book after another came off the shelf. None of them mentioned curses. I kept looking. Finally… One worn spine caught my attention. Across the faded cover, a single word had been pressed into the leather. Curses. I carefully pulled the heavy book free. Dust drifted into the air as I carried it to a nearby table and sat down. Taking a steady breath, I opened the first page. “Well…” I whispered to myself. “Here we go.”

I opened the book to the first page, my eyes landing on the familiar opening line. "There was no possibility of taking a walk that day." I smiled despite myself, feeling in the familiar words of the book. I've read these words a hundred times, but each time, they felt new. They were the beginning of a story that had carried me through the darkest moments of my life. These words, were home. With a smile, I turned the page.

I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand. As I pulled a particularly old tome from a high shelf, I felt a strange energy pulsing from it. The cover was engraved with intricate patterns, symbols that I didn’t recognize but seemed to hum with a power of their own. I carefully opened the book, the pages crackling with age, and began to read.
