JANE I heard the words leave my mouth before I could stop them. "It's only fair to end this with a little bit of crass, is it not?" His eyebrows went up. Interest flickered across his face. I stood, tucking the bills into my purse with deliberate slowness. Five hundred dollars. That was textbooks and maybe even groceries that weren't ramen. My hands weren't shaking anymore. I was Jailbird now. Fully Jailbird. Jane Puckett was locked away somewhere safe.

“It is another conviction.” Ava stepped beside him. Together they read the pages silently. One list included coffee and thunderstorms and old songs. Another included fresh bread and dogs and remembering dreams after waking up. Another simply said: People who stay. The words settled heavily between them. Because simplicity often traveled further than complexity ever managed. Ava smiled softly. “I love this.” “So do I.” A pause. “I think I love that nobody asked permission first.” She laughed quietly. “Communities rarely do.” Interesting.

Ruby sighed to keep her laughter at bay. Pride and Prejudice is certainly a good book. Ruby also enjoyed it, but it’s a romance novel. This was the first time Ruby had met a man—especially one like Ed—who willingly admitted to liking that book. “Precisely because it’s so different. I enjoy it. It’s simple. There is no need to burden my mind. Light and warm. It reminds me that sometimes people only need simple things to be happy. It's akin to a fragment of a captivating vision that you can perpetually cherish.

This person provided a ton of key info just to bring down their competitor. And that person's last name was Carver. After thanking the police, I left the station. On the way home, I remembered a weird phone call I'd gotten once. The number was unfamiliar, and all I could hear on the other end was muffled sobbing. I lifted my head and looked up at the blazing sun. Its warmth washed over me. "What do you feel like eating today, babe?" Julian asked, his eyes crinkled into a smile. "Anything you make will be perfect," I said.

I am 24 years-old. I have been writing books since I was 13 years-old. I have wrote 6 books total, but lost 5 to a house fire, and did not have backups. I lost my want to write after losing my first 5 books. It has been 8 years since then. This is my first book I have published. I am a mother of 1 daughter, trying for a second child. I want to make a living as a author, but also become a daycare teacher. I have a cp in earily childcare. My passion is my child. I love and live for my family. They matter more then anything.

You two haven't gone hungry, so what is there to be dissatisfied about? "It's not like the construction site is unlivable. Why do you insist on wasting money on a house? Plenty of people out there have to sleep on the streets!" I looked down at my dirt-caked fingernails, which looked so ugly next to Abigail's perfect, glossy manicure. For as long as I could remember, I had lived in a corrugated tin shack that was freezing in the winter and scorching in the summer. The roaring noise outside never stopped, which had severely damaged my hearing.

I only had a year to find my answers, no distractions was a good way to start. "Venus, honey, are you ready?" My mom called me from the kitchen, as I opened my bedroom door. "Yes, mom be right there." I called back. Walking towards the kitchen, I was singing Famous Last Words out loud. "I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone, honey if you stay I'll be forgiven, Nothing you can say can stop me going home. Can you see my eyes are shining bright? Cause I'm out here on the other side of a jet black hotel mirror and I'm so weak..."

Our family was whole. And the life we were building — simple, real, and full of love — was only just beginning. the end
