I imagined a Set of Parentheses, so large they curved around the entire village square. In the language of the Old World, a parenthesis is a space where the main story pauses. It’s an aside. A secret. For as long as I held that note, we weren't part of the "Main Plot." We were Non-Essential. The ink-boulder hit the top of the golden curve.

The two of them 'fell in love' and my mother remarried the second time. Cathedra tried to break herself free from Diane's hold but she was unshakeable. Diane continued with her narration as though Cathedra's interruption didn't even take place. "'Just like Cinderella, with genders reversed', she would muse to me every time. And just like Cinderella's story, my mother died one day, leaving me alone with my stepfather. Alone for him to do whatever he wanted. Alone for him to do whatever he pleased with me. "And so I killed him. I killed him in the most gruesome way I could ever think of that time. Did a prince save me? No, unlike that helpless Cinderella, I didn't wait for someone to save me.

“What now? Are you going to read me a bedtime story?” “No, not at all.” She smiles then giggle a bit, excited and now with a string of hopeful lines, and told JK. “Well, you see I will present to you the representation of the people inside that story that brought you way down into this kind of doom. The dark tale that this story and very world lies in between and beyond, Alice in Wonderland.”

As the stories got scarier, I noticed a few of the younger pack members huddling closer to their parents, seeking comfort and reassurance. Soon, it was my turn to share a story. Feeling the weight of the moment, I cleared my throat and began my tale. "In a small village, there was a haunted mansion. It was said that the spirit of a vengeful witch roamed the halls, seeking revenge on anyone who dared to enter her domain..." I let my imagination run wild, conjuring spine-chilling scenes and mysterious characters. The pack leaned in closer, their eyes wide with fascination, hanging onto every word I spoke. The suspenseful atmosphere made my heart race with excitement.

We went inside the massive room, and she showed me all of her collections before she speaks. "The world is like a huge library that is filled with books. It’s a book that contains everyone's story. Everyone has their story written somewhere in the library. It can be a book of love between two lovers from a distance, an inspirational story of a family, a story of an unbreakable friendship, or the story of a war against long-time enemies. Our stories don't always have a happy endings. Some ends in tragedy and others end with a twist and unexpected turn of events. No matter what is written in our final chapter, it always ends up with a lesson.

Brooke. “Oh,” I reply after Alexander ends the story, “I could’ve never guessed that’s how the story ends.” “It is quite a grim tale,” Alexander agrees.
