I gasped, bubbles escaping from my mouth. Looking down, I saw a plant with long, venomous thorns that had found its home beneath the water's surface. One of those thorns had impaled my leg, injecting its toxic venom into my system. Panic welled up within me. My movements became frantic as I grappled with the pain. Each attempt to pry the thorn from my leg sent shockwaves of agony through my body. The water around me blurred. Summoning every ounce of strength and willpower, I seized the thorn with both hands, bracing myself for the searing pain that would surely follow. With a sharp yank, I tore it free, the rush of pain almost causing me to lose consciousness.

I stopped. There it was. A thorn bush I had never seen before. Its branches were dark, almost black, twisted unnaturally, the thorns looked sharp like claws. Something about it pulled at me. My chest tightened again, that same strange pull from the dream. “Tsk… why do you look like that?” I murmured, reaching out without thinking. The moment my finger touched it, I felt a sharp pain. “Ah—!” I pulled back sharply, but it was too late.

Lana, clothed in white linen that stopped around her knees, barefoot walked the straight path to where she could see brightness. Jerked out of her trance, she whined in pain, reaching for her feet. They were bleeding, having been pricked countless times by the thorns on the path she wasn't conscious of.

It was gone. "What the...." I was shocked, and fear crept into me, "What are you both thinking?" I questioned them and began to move away from them. "Don't!" Elayne warned me. I was not ready to listen. I took a step backwards anyway, and I felt something piercing into my leg immediately. It was by the side. An excruciating pain hit me. It was sharp, and I realised the thorns were all poisonous. No wonder it was called the Garden of Pain.

But as Thorn’s laugh echoed through the cave, I knew it was too late. I kept my movements slow, my fingers sore from rubbing the ropes against the sharp rock. The pain was unbearable, but I forced myself to focus on the task at hand. Every time I thought I might be close to breaking free, every time I tried to put more pressure on the ropes, the sharp pain from my wound pulled me back to reality. I could feel blood trickling down my side, soaking into my clothes, but I refused to give up. I couldn’t. Thorn’s mocking voice echoed through the cave, breaking through my thoughts. He paced again, each step measured, deliberate, like a predator waiting for its prey to slip.

Every step felt like fire. It was like someone was hitting my feet with a hammer, right through my old sneakers. The elevator in our building has been broken for weeks now. So climbing five floors of stairs is just my life. I struggled with my keys, my hands hurt from carrying heavy grocery bags. When will I ever catch a break? I thought. I could hear music blasting through our door before I even opened it. Some happy pop song. I pushed the door open with my shoulder.

The thorns seemed to pulsate with a dark energy, as if they were alive, waiting to ensnare their next victim. The thorns were a warning to any who entered the dungeon - a warning that this was a place of pain and suffering, a place where only the strongest could survive. Bree shivered as she looked around the dungeon, feeling a sense of dread wash over her. She knew that she was in for a long and brutal punishment, and that the thorns would be her constant companions throughout her time in the dungeon.
