Too Late Colleen Hoover Novels & Stories

It was Colleen. The moment I answered, she practically screamed, "Did Harlan cheat on you?" Confused, I asked, "How do you know about that?" "I saw him at the hospital! He was carrying a woman in his arms. At first, I thought it was you. But when I got closer, I realized that it wasn't…" Sensing my silence, Colleen added, "Why don't you stay at my place for a few days?" When I reached Colleen's house, it was already late at night.

I got to witness the most memorable occasion firsthand. * * * Colleen had been dating a particularly unsavory fellow named Kirk halfway through Hope's senior year. He happily provided alcohol for Colleen, who was only twenty at the time. One day, the two of them had been drinking in the house while our parents were at work. Hope and I had come home from school to find them making out in the living room.

"But the mistake ends tonight. Murphy Daniel got the housewife who bent over backwards to please him. Texas is going to get the surgeon." I took a deep breath, the cold air filling my lungs, and looked at the black corporate folder one last time. The weak, broken woman who walked out of that mansion was gone.

"Her apartment's close to the office anyway, right downtown. It's not a big issue." I had been drinking, and I was getting sleepy. Listening to him ramble on only made me more annoyed. At the same time, I almost wanted to laugh. Lacey had not just recently moved there. She had lived in that same apartment complex ever since she joined his company. … When I got home, I received a message from Cooper. He sent over information about his company, but he didn't try to persuade me further. He only asked me to think it over carefully. I was reading it when my phone was suddenly snatched away.

“There is news trending all over the media right now.” Alexander frowned. “What news? Spill it already.” The assistant hesitated. “It is about Mrs. Charlotte Voss.” My stomach tightened on hearing my name mentioned. “What about her?” Alexander asked, staring briefly at me. The assistant took a breath. “They are reporting that your wife is barren.”

The police declare that more investigations are still in progress. Grandma Jo gasped so hard Teddy jumped onto her lap. "No," she breathed, shaking her head. "No, this cannot happen. This cannot be my grandchildren." She went white. She leaned forward, her eyes on the screen as if she stared hard enough, she would know that it was a mistake. On the television screen, Siena's face flashed—a shiny photo from some night out, her smile wide, her dress sparkling. And then Leonard's face appeared, cold and shiny, the business-type.

Half a month had passed since I last saw him, so I already missed him dearly. However, as soon as I arrived at the airport, I ran into Quinton and Zachary. They both had sullen expressions, but their faces lit up immediately when they saw me. "Mom! I knew you would come! Are those tarts for me? Thank you for these!" Zachary eagerly snatched the box from my hand. Quinton said coldly, "I told you the deadline was before three o'clock. Do you know what time it is right now? You should learn a thing or two from Lynn when it comes to timeliness!"

Victoria Graham told me we'd have to postpone getting our marriage license again just as I was picking up my fork. Victoria set down her cutlery, her tone as casual as if she were commenting on the weather. "Next time." I took a bite, chewed, and swallowed. "Okay." She glanced at me, then lowered her head and reached for another bite. Before taking it, she looked up at me again. "You're not angry?" I took another bite and answered calmly, "I'm not." We'd been engaged for six months, and this was the 17th time she'd postponed getting our marriage license. She was used to it. So was I. I ate slowly and finished my meal, one mouthful at a time. She didn't touch her food again. After ta

she continued, "Lana and I were thinking, you've been cooped up way too long. We should go out tonight. Get your mind off everything." My phone buzzed with a second notification. Lana, in our group chat. *Girls night?? We miss you!! 🥹* I stared at both messages for a moment, something cold settling behind my ribs. I already suspected they'd leaked that photo. The timing fit too well, the two of them visiting right before it surfaced, the careless way Chloe had reached for my phone that night while I showered, assuming I wouldn't notice. I had noticed. I just hadn't said anything.

"Dad, Mom, what exactly is going on?" Lincoln, however, kicked him aside. "I'm not your dad! Scram far away!" Leonard clutched his chest in pain and turned to Maria with bloodshot eyes. "Mom, what's going on?" Maria collapsed on the ground, looking despondent. She wiped the tears from her face and continued to deny everything vehemently. "I didn't…" Before she could complete her sentence, I threw an envelope to the floor. Photos spilled out, revealing shameful footage of two people entangled passionately with each other.
