Shattering it. Silence. Sudden, deafening silence. The chant cuts off mid-groan. Kin collapse, writhing, clutching their heads, severed from the source of their amplified madness. Arthur reels back from the altar, the dagger clutched spasmodically. He stares at the Child, then at the fallen Kin, utter confusion warring with fury on his ruined face. The blue flicker in his eye is gone, swallowed by raging green void. But the Child… they don’t hover. They fall . Like a spent firework. Their light gutters, dims to a faint ember. They hit the blighted earth near the altar, a small, still form. Cold. So cold. Detachment won. Or… sacrifice did.

The first fracture in the fragile bond they had built. Snow melted on her cheeks. She didn’t know if it was from the cold or tears. “Elara,” Lucian whispered, voice cracking, “Let me explain.” But she couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t speak. Marek opened the car door. “Elara you can come inside.” She looked between the two men One who frightened her and One who broke her. Both who wanted her. Inside was a single object, bound in a frost-coated bark, etched with the golden spiral. It pulsed once in his hand and then went still. And the cathedral listened. Kieran opened the book and read out loud: “Those who read this book have already been damned. When you pass through those doors of how you so crave, it shall be your demise in the true self of you. His wolf claws reach out for me and Colby was quick to push me away from his reach. I stagger back and fall back to the shattered window and like those slow motions acts, I watch things escalate. As I fall I see Shawn and Colby killing Ambrose's men in their wolf forms viciously. I avert my gaze to the beautiful sky above and wonder when will I be in peace. As I am falling I call out to God.
