A Thousand Splendid Suns Novels & Stories

" Moments later, flames began licking every corner of the sty. The pigs were startled and began squealing and trampling over one another in panic, trying to escape. The fire spread quickly, and I felt the painful burns on my skin. The heavy smoke was also stinging my eyes and making me choke. I wanted to run, but I was still chained up, and there was nowhere I could go. Was I finally going to die this time? But maybe it was for the best. The pig sty began to collapse, its support beams falling, and I looked at the blue sky outside the tiny window. I remembered how Victoria looked in her wedding dress.

Instead, I saw a void of a different kind. The sun should have been high in the sky by now, but the horizon was swallowed by a strange, artificial golden haze. It wasn't light that illuminated the world; it was a light that seemed to erase it. It was thick, golden, and terrifyingly silent, moving toward the Northern ridge like a slow-moving wall of liquid fire that left nothing behind. "The Sun-Eaters," Kaelen whispered, her voice trembling as she stood beside us, her hand white-knuckled on the stone railing. "They’re not an army. They’re a ritual. A collective invocation of the Sun’s absolute wrath."

"This is Solan, son of the shadow and the sun. And I swear to you—by every stone of this Citadel and every beat of my heart—he will grow up in a world where he never has to lift a sword to prove he belongs here. The horizon is ours, and our tomorrow is eternal!" The plaza erupted. The cheers that followed were deafening—a tidal wave of pure, unadulterated joy, music, and weeping gratitude that rose up toward the sapphire sky like a living prayer. The horns played a triumphant, harmonious tune, the drums a constant, joyful beat, and from the terraced gardens hundreds of white doves and golden solar-birds rose into the air in a breathtaking dance of light and shadow.

**Kelly Thompson's POV** The golden star doesn't just watch-it *calls*. Its light seeps into the soil, the air, the survivors' dreams. By dawn, the wasteland is unrecognizable. Jagged obsidian spires erupt overnight, their surfaces etched with the spiral-and-thorns. The survivors huddle in their shadow, their eyes hollow, skin glistening with a faint gold sheen. Even Ravel's shovel, once dull and rusted, gleams unnaturally, as if the star's gaze polishes the world into something sharper, colder.

I found him in the attic sitting on one of the seats that the room provided. I sank into the seat next to his and relaxed in it. The attic had glass walls, the lights were off. The moon lit up the room dimly but it was enough for now. He turned when I sat next to him and looked at me with intense eyes. He looked at me like a blind man seeing the sun for the first time, like I was a reward handed to him on a silver platter.

“Who knew the trump card of the Sun had such an impactful terror. Their wealth is immeasurable, much more so than ours!” Spout said with a smile. After a few days' work, the Khan had looted everything they could from the Sun. Spout sat on the Khan throne, and smiled brightly at his subjects. “Indeed! After our little insurrection, our clan had risen far beyond what was once thought possible!” a leader said. “Now, we have both Skyfall and the mayor having our backs, who’d dare try anything against us?” another chipped in. The Khan leaders cheered and celebrated their success. “Hey, now that we have the Sun’s techniques at our disposal, no doubt the Khan will improve further!” a leader checked

Gianna hated palanquins. She thought it was a shame to put her weight on someone else’s shoulders. Though she asked for a horse, Edgar denied it saying it does not match for a girl to travel on a horse. He had no idea how good Gianna was at horse riding. After she came out of the palanquin, Gianna gazed at the Hesmian palace which was bigger than any other buildings she had ever seen. On the other hand, Danyel was trying to recall the weird dream he had last night. This time he saw the brightest sun anyone could ever imagine. It was burning endlessly and it reminded him of a fierce warrior. Not only the view, but he also felt the warmth.

While massaging her feet Antonio was reading a story to Jeevika where he read a paragraph " After like decades, my journey seemed to come to an end. The warmth of the fire was beautiful but the warmth of the sun can be a life, I learned when its rays fell upon me and the snow all over me sparkled like stars. Stars at night I had witnessed but a star in the day I had never before. That star was the Sun. Sun is invisible! I witnessed it when I saw my tears wetting my eyelashes and running down drenching my cheeks. It was warmth. The rays of the sun scattered into seven shades of love welcoming me back to life. My red hands shivered as they moved up to embrace the sun between them but before I

I fluttered my eyes open and looked around me, there was no sign of Calyx and my head was banging really hard making it hard for me to remember what day it was. I crept out of bed and went to stand close to the window, pushing off the curtains as I tried to understand the sounds I was hearing. My eyes stared everywhere as I took in the jubilation of the pack members, some of them were gathered around the palace, having a fun time with themselves. “It's coronation day.” I mused, finding solace in staring at the wolves. The creak from the door made me turn away from the window. Moira entered the room with two other maids, and they both carried a bowl in their hands.

The girl was weak, just as he had expected. In the golden grandeur of his celestial chambers, Helios reveled in the satisfaction of his manipulation. His home in the heavens was a palace of pure radiance, walls forged from the first rays of sunlight, casting a perpetual glow that would blind any mortal who dared to look upon it. Tall, arching windows opened to the sky, allowing beams of sunlight to pour in, reflecting off the gilded surfaces of the room. His throne, an elaborate seat of blazing gold, was set atop a dais, encrusted with sunstones that shimmered with every step he took.
