A bright grin lingers last before he slips into the throng, pulled along by voices bubbling with laughter. A whisper of touch guides me along, fingers at my waist nudging forward. Into a pocket of calm near the wall, away from the noise. He waits. A question hangs without words “It’s a trap,” I say quietly, my stomach churning. “But not one with walls or blades. “Good idea. Let’s keep looking; we might find something else.” They continued for an hour and found three more spots where traps had been or in the case of the last one, was still there. Zephyra would’ve been excited if it wasn’t for the dead coyote they found caught in it, but the worst were the obvious signs of the fierce struggle it had gone through in an attempt to free itself. He listened silently. Margaret continued. “He promised.” Her smile broke. “And you believed him.” She lowered her head. “You believed everyone who loved you.” Daniel's fists tightened. “That was never her weakness.” Margaret looked at him. “What?” “Trusting people.” Daniel's voice was low. “They made it a weakness.”

"They're a start. But you're right, they're not the whole solution." "What else can we do?" she asked, worry creasing her brow. "We could set up a trap," I suggested. Her eyebrows rose. "What kind of trap?" "Bait," I said simply. "We give someone an opportunity to sabotage something, but this time we'll be watching." "Like what?" I thought for a moment. "Something valuable but not critical to daily operations. Something that might tempt someone with sticky fingers or ill intentions." "We could use one of the specialty tools," she suggested. "The ones that are expensive and easy to sell."

“This is not complete.” Grayson’s tone didn’t change. “It is everything you’re getting.” That’s when the air shifted. The man’s voice hardened. “Do you think I’m stupid?” My heart started beating harder. Grayson shifted slightly in front of me. I flinched. “What the ” Men stepped out from everywhere. From behind crates. From corners. From shadows that weren’t visible before. Grayson muttered, “Trap.” I swallowed. “Yeah, definitely a trap.” The man’s voice carried through the space. “You really thought you could walk in here and outsmart us?”

“The desperate mate, trying to flee to her Alpha? It’s the oldest story in the book.” He took another step. I took a step back, my back to the open, vulnerable clearing. “I have every patrol schedule, every sentry rotation memorized. I designed the three-minute gap you saw. It’s called a trap.” He smiled, a flash of white in the gathering dark. “I wanted to see if you’d take the bait. I have to admit, I’m a little proud you did. It shows spirit.” Rage, hot and blinding, burned through my fear. “You monster.”

“Once the necklace turns completely cold, you'll have reached the edge of the coven's property. Beyond that, you'll encounter more wolves but fewer magical traps.” I extended my hand and grasped the object. It was as cold as ice, as though it had been stored in a deep freeze. Odd. "And what exactly is a spell trap?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued. “It’s just like it sounds: a magical boundary that triggers something when you cross it. Some are harmless, maybe causing a little itch or making you sleepy. Others are deadly, stopping your heart instantly. The remaining members of the coven refuse to remove them, and the mountain’s magic keeps them active.”

Mack said. “We will see,” Henni said with a smile. They got to the service, and again they stood with the kids as a group next to the family. Mack’s parents were there, and so were Gabe’s. The entire revenge was over now. The kids were the keys to everything. They were the next step of all the friend trap that began with their parents. Soon Gabe and Christian would add the group, and their children would all be raised together. They would be better than their parents were and more than their grandparents. Hope to the future for all of them. It would be the next generation of friends that could deal with all of this together.

Meanwhile, Asteria firmly pulled Calista to follow her quickly. She also felt embarrassed by Calista's behavior earlier. Cleo and Damon followed them from behind after apologizing to the people around them. Damon looked at Cleo, who also understood the situation.
