ZARA I’m still asleep but it feels like I’m in a trance. I hear the chirping of birds from outside the window, which is strange because even though this place is surrounded by trees, I have never heard a bird sing outside my window. Soft winds pass by in a whisper, lifting the blinds around and causing them to brush my skin. There’s a halo of sunshine around my face, making it impossible to keep my eyes shut for longer.

I don't miss him I'm just curious. Liar. I do miss him which is shocking and unbelievable, but I do miss and I'm not gonna deny it. My nails subconsciously begin to pick at the edges of the book in my hand, I've re-read one sentence for what feels like forever. My eyes and brain refuse to cooperate today, I know I'm reading the words but nothing is translating and it's frustrating to say the least. I sigh, my eyes finds their way to the window, it's a relatively nice day, the sky is blue with only a few clouds scattered around it giving it a breathtaking view.

(Calla's POV) The air within the cabin had been too still, too parched. I still sat with my back against the window seat with the same book that I couldn't understand all afternoon, following the lines of the page where it was thinning out and cracking into fragments in my mind as it whirled round and round.

I will let the letters let me. Like I said, my room is full of books. Algebra, geography, 21st-century Literature, and even dictionaries. I've read almost everything, and my life sucks. Sucks not to the point I have nothing to do, but I am a sucker. A sucker of all forms of knowledge. I just sit here and scan and sleep. But I don't find it boring or a run-on-the-mill. Maybe I am conspired to be like this, to do like this. Nothing is unprecedented. I went near the window and from here, I can see the grainfield and other parts of district G.

Since the place was full of narrow passages, I decided to walk through, till I caught sight of a dusty window left open, wide enough for me to jump through. I threw myself out through the window, crashing on the hard ground with my back slamming against the rough stones.

It looked ancient, and as my eyes touched its words I felt as though I was in the presence of a very old, very powerful being. My eyes pricked with tears. The raindrops hit the window beside me, splintering and splitting into two halves. Outside, I could see the figure of the wolf statue that Alpha Felix and Luna Carla had got us as a house-warming gift. A single drop of rain ran like a stream down the centre of its image, clinging to the glass pane of the bay window and trailing into insignificance as it fell to the wet ground below. I turned back to the open, withered pages of the book. I flicked through it, my fingers careful as they ran through the papers. One word caught my eye: Life.

Without awareness of the road or the rain; the car moved letting my thoughts scattered in my mind. I let my brain roam free and my heart in exploring new avenues. I lift my pointed finger, tracing the window shield. I saw my reflection on it. They say, when a door closes, another one opens but, the way I see it, when a window closes you can only see what could have been through its transparent surface. They’re devious, sly, and tricky the way they allow you to see through them.

The book Callum had given me lay heavy in my hands, its worn cover warm from being clutched too tightly. Slowly, carefully, I opened it. Alright. The answer had to be in here. It just had to be. Because if it wasn’t, then I didn’t know where else I could turn. I glanced out the window at the full moon rising in the dusk sky. “I could really use some guidence here, goddess. Anytime now.”

The golden rays of the setting sun filtered through the windows of the mansion, casting a warm glow over the room. I sat nestled in a plush armchair, engrossed in the pages of a novel titled "The True Heir."
