But we weren't listening anymore because I was kissing her. "You rotten, rotten, horny college kids," Karol retorted, having no choice than to turn up the radio as she started the car. "She has a boyfriend, and she's already missing him because of us," Valentina mocked.

Valentine's aristocratic nostrils shot up as if she had caught a whiff of a particularly tasty piece of meat. Julian led his prisoner through the ballroom. At the bottom of the steps, he tossed Cuthbert hard to the floor without so much as batting an eye at Portia. He drew Valentine a delicate bow while supporting one booted foot on the small of his back. "For the pleasure of my lady." Before the scolding comes to an end the atypically peaceful day, I step forward and hold out the bouquet towards him. “For you!” I say hurriedly, and he looks at me in disbelief at my lame attempt to escape a scolding. Valentin holds the flowers in one hand and picks up a bloody card with the other. He opens it and reads the contents, and I freeze, because I wonder who it's from and I'm scared of what's written there. “I love you and I won't let you run away from the feeling out of fear” Valentin reads the sentence out loud, on purpose, attracting the attention of the curious. “I didn't know that what you felt for me was love, miss.”

“Go, my son. I’m sure that girl needs you more than I do right now.” Carlo hesitated for a moment, guilt pressing down on him. He bent down, planting a soft kiss on her cheek. “I’ll be back. I promise.” As soon as Carlo disappeared through the door, Valentina’s face hardened. The frail, teary-eyed woman from moments before was gone. Her grip tightened on the bedsheet, her eyes cold as stone, devoid of emotion.
