I peep to see her lying on the floor soaked in a pool of blood. The sight of her blood angered me. I dash inside without thinking. Brian followed since he had no choice. I was shocked when I saw Rosie. There was some other lady with her. “Look who we have here? The lover boy. Are you here to save your lost princess?” She laughed. “How fun it was playing with you two. Oh my bad! No introduction. I am Valentine. That name should ring a bell right?” Valentine? My eyes widened when I realized. The only Valentine I have heard of is Andrea's friend. I looked over to Andrea and she nodded weakly.

And then. The bell above the door chimed. A courier entered, carrying the largest bouquet I’d ever seen. “Delivery for… Selene?” The entire room froze. I raised my hand. “I’m Selene.” He handed it to me. Deep red roses. Dark, dramatic, almost violet in their intensity. Dozens of them. Thorns and all. My fingers trembled as I pulled out the note. She didn’t need to guess who sent it. Excitement swelled in her chest. She slid into the car, picked up the bouquet, and read the small card tucked inside. “Meet me at the VIP’s elevator.” That was it. No “sweetheart,” no “love, Dixal.” She pouted slightly. That man could never bring himself to write anything tender. Then again, knowing Dixal—he was always more expressive in person than in letters. A soft smile curved her lips as she inhaled the fresh scent of the roses. They were newly picked. Yellow Valentine roses—her favorite. He remembered.

Someone grabbed my hand, pressed my thumb into the ink pad, and forced it down at the end of the contract. Joy flashed in Vivian's eyes. Matteo took the agreement and left with her. When the door closed, my heart finally died. I struggled to my feet, closed my fist around the broken ruby bracelet, and dialed a number I hadn't called in three years. She reached the oven, and the aroma of the muffins filled her kitchen. She felt satisfied with her baking skills. The muffins were baked with perfection. She immediately shifted them into the container and packed the bag with a few more little gifts she had brought for her boyfriend.

I am not a nosey person, but something is telling me to have a peep. A bright red car is parked across our school gate. People are whispering questions and admirations for the car and the owner of it as he seems to be well off. “A sugar daddy, perhaps?” I heard someone say. “He doesn’t look that old to be a sugar daddy. Maybe a hooker’s client.” They giggled. The car owner waved at me from inside his car. “Leilah!” Colby’s grin sent squeals from the girls watching him. At the moment, I really want to bury my face underground.

Valentine was ready to stop the cargo. “Time out!” he shouts “This is the end of the road for you today, stop and hand over whatever you are carrying or else it will be bloody” he shouts at them but the carriages weren’t stopping, forcefully, he didn’t need to put extra effort anymore when he sees them up close, Valentine could see the humans pointing their crossbows at him. But well, that wouldn’t be enough to worry him even if it was a silver arrow, such a trivial thing could only catch his attention at best.
