ALAANA POV I stood in the field where the warriors were. My heart was beating loudly, drowning out the sound of drums. I had been waiting impatiently for me to see William since the day they went to the battlefield. When the first line of fighters appeared, cheers rose. Their weapons shattered, their spears raised, their clothes stained with sweat and dirt and blood, but they marched with their heads held high. They were home. They were heroes. My lump was in my throat. I ignored the pain I had felt on my knees as my leg hit the rocks and trees as I was busy, looking around with hopeful eyes. I knew every warrior by name, even those I had never spoken to. But only the warrior's face mattered

But my heart sank as another warrior came to life, with his fiery red orbs in place of eyes. It pointed at me with his sword. “Prove thy worth, stinking deserter," and together with the first, they came charging . I was helpless and didn't know what to do. My heart pounded in my chest like a talking drum. There was no way to escape. And they were approaching where I was very fast.

The final battle was upon us, and there was no turning back. I turned to Alaric one last time, my heart racing in my chest, and nodded. “Let’s do this.” He squeezed my hand once more, then led the way back to the heart of the camp, where the rest of our warriors were waiting. The fire crackled in the center, its light casting long shadows across the ground as the warriors assembled, their faces set with determination, but there was a flicker of something else in their eyes, something I couldn’t quite place.

“What?” “My backstory.” Oh. That. I hesitated. “Only if you want to tell me.” She didn’t. Instead, she said, “Your warriors are soft.” “Excuse me?” “Emotionally. They fight like people who haven’t decided if they’re allowed to win.” I frowned. “That’s not softness. That’s trauma.” “Same difference in a war.” Her voice wasn’t cruel. Just matter-of-fact. Like someone who’d already watched this play out in a dozen other packs, and she was just skipping to the end where things got bloody.

I command, my voice cutting clean through the chaos. My warriors obey instantly. They form a protective arc around me, blades flashing, teeth bared. A wolf lunges from the right—one of Keith’s chiefs—and is intercepted before he can reach me. My warrior tears out his throat with efficient brutality. The metallic scent of blood thickens the air. the herald's voice rings out. Slowly, my feet move forward on their own, but inside, my heart beats like it wants to pump out of my chest. I try controlling my rapid breath, but my thoughts are a whirlwind, refusing to keep me calm. Three warriors wait for me. And as expected from my Father, I have to win them all. They’re massive, brutal-looking men with wide chests, thick arms, and scars that scream of past victories. Their eyes gleam with hunger. They want a fight. They want me on the floor.

"There is a true Luna in the Storm Pack." The warriors let out a fierce cry. But I knew in my heart It wasn't over yet. Not quite yet.

I Continue, and he smiles “Yes, I do. Welcome all.” He says and smiles “The Warriors are Jacob, Jason, Andre, Christopher, Thomas, Michael, Jack, Oliver, Owen, and Eli,” I say and I feel the surprise from my warrior. They didn’t expect me to know their names. “I have cleared a wing on the second floor to the right. It is completely free, and your warriors have my permission to keep everyone away from there.” Carter tells us. “Thank you, Alpha,” I say and smile.

“This is a mistake.” He frowned looking at me confused. “You are angry again? I do not understand. How could this possibly be a mistake? We are betrothed. In what way is having feelings for someone that will be my future bride a problem?” It is a problem because I do not want anyone to have feelings for me. How am I to be a cold-hearted warrior and keep the name I had built for myself if I am so weak as to have feelings? Real warriors do not possess feelings or care because it is a weakness. Something that can be used against me in the long run, something that is only good for holding me back. How did no one seem to understand this? I did not wish to be loved and I would not love in return.

A cute voice asked. “Because she is the only female warrior of the Xenakis tribe, she’s the leader’s daughter!” The redheaded girl explained. “Woah!!!” They all exclaimed at the revelation. Apparently, most of them had neither seen nor heard of her before. The redheaded girl nodded in affirmation. “So I heard that Alpha Russe’s charm had made her infatuated with him.” She whispered again. “Eishh! Doesn’t she have her own mate? Or is she the legendary mate-less warrior from our history classes?” The fat boy commented with clear sarcasm in his voice.
