Accidentally Claimed
Gosh, I hate this gut-wrenching feeling of being cut off from her, especially because I feel so intensely responsible; since her parents passed, she's had no one else truly looking out for her.
As I walked, I tried composing yet another frantic text to ask if she was okay, but I took the corner near the entrance too sharply.

I collided squarely with a solid mass near the garage entrance. The impact was slight, but enough to make me gasp.
“Oh, I am so sorry, I wasn’t—” he began to apologize instinctively, his hands coming up to steady my arms. His voice cut off abruptly as his eyes registered my face.
