The pages of the ancient book flipped violently on their own. One after another. Faster and faster. The windows remained shut. Yet the wind grew stronger. "Mia..." Her wolf didn't answer. Adriana felt Mia's presence slipping away until it disappeared completely. She was alone. Then, without warning, her eyes flashed brilliant white. Only for an instant. When the light vanished, Adriana remained frozen before the ancient book, completely unaware of what had just happened. Nor did she notice the shadow standing silently beyond the library doorway. The heavy main door of Caden's mansion clicked shut behind me. The sound didn't offer freedom; it sealed me into a new kind of prison. The bright afternoon sun felt too harsh, mocking the darkness that had just settled deep inside me. I was outside, yes, but no longer my own. The air felt thick, heavy with the weight of the deal. My limbs felt weak, like every bone had turned to water. I had agreed. I had sold myself, not just for money now, but for Caden’s sinister game.

It made sense to him that Adrian had lost his mind and had murdered these innocent families, those children. “Okay look at these. I found them in my father’s house after his funeral,” Adrian said and handed Robert three old books, bound in leather. Robert opened the first book and began to read. It held accounts of wolf sightings, transformation ceremonies, councils, people with powers, how to kill a wolf and much more. There were detailed drawings and Robert could tell by the faded ink that the books were old indeed. Adrian knew the truth.

Nothing happened at first, but as Serena was about to put the book down a bright blue light appeared around Adrian, he shone around him for a few minutes and then vanished. Serena looked down at Adrian, and all his wounds, both poisoned and normal from the attack, were healed; a smile spread across her face as Adrian's pained expression relaxed; he was going to be fine. Serena thought as she took her seat beside him, sighing in relief, Serena picked up the Spell book and began going through the Spell book, she found different spells for so many different things, she even found a spell for making new clothes out of scraps so she didn't have to go back to the castle to get clothes for Adrian,

“I feel that this is it. Whatever it is I am meant to find, I feel that it is here. My father, he said that the island was a big place. I think that what he meant was that the Notre Dame was not the only place on the island to search. That our final clue is beside the Notre Dame.” They walked to the door, preparing to open it, when suddenly, the door opened wide, startling them. Before them stood a tall, strikingly beautiful vampire, wearing a white robe and hood. She pulled it back, revealing light blue eyes and long, brown hair. But I had so much to do. Trying to gather some determination, I sat cross-legged on my bed, strewing the textbooks and papers before me as I tried to focus on my tasks. My fingers traced illustrated pages in my biology tome, and ironically, a yawn escaped unbidden from me. As if summoned by my thoughts, the corner of the drawer caught my eye, a sliver of leather peeking out with impertinence. Emory's diary seemed to be whispering for attention. I shouldn't look into it anymore. In fact, I should return it to Jenna as soon as possible. After my conversation with Adrian over the weekend, I had come to the decision to stop looking into the Order. It wasn't worth my time.

What I have in my hands is the sixth book in The Secret of The Immortal Nicholas Flames series, which is entitled The Enchantress,” Adrian continued to explain even though the title of the book was clearly written on the front page, making Diana laugh. “Why are you laughing?” “Nothing.” Diana stifled an amused chuckle. “It's just that the book isn't my type.” “Oh, of course. You're a fan of dark romance readings from the past, the story of a nanny who falls in love with her cold, cruel and heartless master but is actually romantic.” Adrian sneered. “Typical female reading.”

Adrian glanced at the papers on his desk, at the web of names and dates, at the edges of danger slowly tightening around his world. He wasn’t done. Not even close. He picked up his phone again—not to call—but to take a photo of the board in front of him. A copy. Insurance. Then he turned off the lights. Aria was waiting. And tomorrow, Nathan Hale would try again. But Adrian would be ready.
