He smiled and complimented, “Mr. Calvin’s secretary—beauty and brains in one package.” Calvin remained motionless and said calmly, “I’m flattered.” Xavier tilted his head. “Can you play?” Adriana answered modestly, “To be honest, I’ve dabbled a bit, but my skills are really poor. I argued giving him a pointed look but Yurik was as stubborn as an ox once he set his mind on something. "Oh, you're one of those bosses who want experienced workers but won't give non- experienced workers the chance to gain the experience they need to find work so how is anybody ever supposed to find work if no one is willing to give them a chance." She tried to pay attention but her gaze strayed again and again to where the duke sat at the head of the table. A beautiful blond woman sat next to him, very self-assured, very correct, and very flirtatious. Her snowy muslin gown revealed a generous bosom and she had obviously worked very hard to make the most of that asset. Her name, Cassy recalled with a pang, was Rebecca Spencer. Though reportedly engaged to another man, she was obviously after the duke of Eastland.

Her eyes were locked on him. She stopped right in front of him, smiling like she already owned his soul. “You’re Adrian, right?” she said, smiling.
