He snuggled closer, small fingers tracing the illustrations as I read about dragons and knights, magical forests and brave adventurers. His commentary grew slower, sleepier, until finally, his breathing evened out against my shoulder.

She squatted down and said, "Noe, why are you awake?" Noah hugged her. "There’s thunder when it rains. I don't dare sleep alone." Pearl turned to look at Tanner, who smiled.
