Anne placed a tray with two glasses of wine on the coffee table.
"What about Marie?" I asked as she settled on the couch across from us.
"Oh, Marie. She's still at school. She should be back soon, though. It's almost noon," she answered, smiling.
"Who is Marie?" Xavier inquired, glancing between the two of us.
"Marie is my daughter. She's four," Anne replied, and Xavier grinned, nodding.
"I'm sure she's a wonderful young lady. I can't wait to have one myself, you know? I'd be thrilled to have a daughter. They're the best," he added.
