I watched the trees blur past, trying to focus on the physical journey rather than the emotional one.
"Okay, I know you said you're fine," Axiel said suddenly, "but we're stopping."
"What? Why?"
"Because you've been staring out that window like you're watching your life flash before your eyes, and I think we both need a break." He was already pulling off the highway. "Look, there's a game center up ahead. We're going in."
"Axiel, I really don't think…"
"I don't care what you think right now," he said, but his tone was kind. "You're in shock, you're heartbroken, and you're about to face your traumatic past. The least I can do is give you thirty minutes of distraction."
