We laughed together, and I felt the last remnants of that old chapter truly close. "That's not all I brought." Elena's expression turned mischievous as she nodded toward the party inside. "I also packed my best lingerie because have you seen Alpha Xander? Those shoulders should be illegal in at least twelve territories." I nearly choked on my champagne. "Xander? Alpha of Granite Ridge Xander?" "The very same." Elena's eyes tracked him through the glass doors as he laughed with Isabella and Cici. "I met him briefly in the entrance hall when I arrived. The sounds of battle outside made my heart race, but nothing came near the room. Until the door opened again. I stopped breathing. Footsteps. Two sets. I recognized them instantly. Alpha Xavier and Luna Aliyah. I peeked out from the shadows, careful not to make a sound. Aliyah was injured, blood streaking her arm and thigh, her perfect hair a tangled mess. But Xavier… he looked terrible. His chest was slashed open, a deep, ugly wound still bleeding heavily. His breathing was wet and shallow. For the first time, the terrifying Alpha King looked painfully mortal.

Xavier managed to look but relieved and unconcerned that I had let him go but I wasn't nearly done yet. I bared my claws ready to spill his blood and try my luck with another method of finding Astrid. "Then I have no more use for you being alive." Xavier's eyes widened at the sight of my claws and the scent of his fear permeated the air. I raised my hand to strike only to be stopped by the most surprising voice. "Stop Alpha Jaxon!"

That shouldn't be possible. Xavier (drawing his blade): "...This place hasn't been used in years. Why does it smell like someone just lit it?" A slow clap breaks the silence. Xavier's body tenses like wire. He spins. Aldren steps from behind a column, his silhouette arrogant as always, a dagger twirling in his fingers like a toy. Beep! Beep!! Beep!! Beep! Beep! The alarm suddenly began to vibrate on the large reading table that was opposite her big bed. At first, it was impossible for her to hear this, but just like the alarm had a mind of its own, it increased it's tempo and suddenly began to ring faster and louder that Miss Jane was forced to open her eyes with a scream. She noticed the noise and she quickly grabbed the alarm trying to put it to sleep but it wasn't responding, so she had no option than to smash it on the floor.

He didn't wait for the person's reply and the next thing he did shocked Xander, he picked a picture and threw them in the nearby fire and the persons on the picture made Xander's face drop.
