a familiar voice called out.
I turned my head to see Allie walking toward me, carefully balancing a bottle of red wine and two elegant glasses between her fingers. She had kicked off her high heels, walking barefoot on the stone pathway with a tired but comforting smile.
She poured the wine, handing me a glass before leaning her shoulder against mine, both of us staring out at the sunset.
"Today was brutal," I admitted softly, staring into the dark liquid.
"It was," Allie agreed, taking a slow sip. She turned her head, her expression turning incredibly soft, shedding her usual bubbly persona. "You know... I lost my dad when I was seventeen, Ruby."
