As I take a deep breath, I inhale a scent of winter forest, mixed with musk. Kieran. He's leaning against the wall, with his head tipped back, his eyes shut. His chest rising too fast, his body stiff as he struggles to breathe barely holding himself together. His hand wrapped around his side like his hurting.

he said quietly, “I’d rather you know exactly what you’re dealing with. Or not at all.” Daire’s jaw flexed. On some level, he wanted to see this. Wanted the forest to weigh Kieran and render a verdict. On another, uglier level, he resented that Kieran got to prove himself this way at all. The elder’s pale eyes fixed on Kieran. “State your name,” they said. “And the oath you offer.” Kieran cleared his throat. “Kieran Hale,” he said. His voice came out rough. He swallowed and tried again. “Kieran Hale. Former Tribunal runner. Current pain in their ass.”

Instead he decided that it was time to take a page out of Sinclair’s own book. Before they lost contact, his spy had shared that the Storm Forest Alpha, Kieran, was fiercely opposed to allying with Sinclair. The Alpha clearly had more sense than some of his countrymen, as he understood that humans were worth little more than slave labor, and made no bones about sharing this perspective.

“So, who’s the alpha? If my Teen Wolf knowledge is any good, alphas are the ones in charge, right?” A ripple of low chuckles went through the group. All eyes slid to Kieran. “That would be me,” Kieran said, his voice calm but absolute. “I’m the future Alpha of all the wolves in Blackbridge.” The confirmation hit Nate like a physical blow. He should have guessed. Kieran had always carried that air of unshakable authority, like he was born to rule. “So what the hell am I supposed to do?” Nate demanded, the fear sharpening his words. “Because I’m sure as hell not dying.”

Because she was the Guardian. She had reforged the bond. And yet, to them She was nothing. The man finally spoke. "My name is Kieran," he said. His voice was steady. Measured. Like he was used to commanding. Like he had done this before. Lyla squared her shoulders. "You're the Alpha," she said. It wasn’t a question. Kieran’s lips twitched in something that wasn’t quite a smile. "Of this pack?" he asked. "Yes. But we are not like your wolves."

I turned and looked around, my eyes met a pair of hazel ones. “Who's that man?” I asked Kate, gesturing at the tall blond who refused to look away. “Oh, him? That's Ethan. He's the Alpha of Raven claw pack. A notorious tyrant and a well-known douchebag who chases anything in a skirt” she wiped the cream off my lips with her thumb. “If you come across him, avoid him like the plague” “You think he's going to hit on a pregnant lady?” “He has been in a silent competition with Lukas for years. He would do anything to have what he has. Not only that. He's dangerous too. I heard his pack practices black magic”

"Do you know the name of the lycan king who wasn't supposed to come?" He followed my gaze to the card, a look of pity crossing his face as it was handed to me. "Alpha Kael Draven." Alpha who? god, I was dead... so dead...

“Oh wow. It’s such an honor to meet you.” Laying it on a little thick, aren’t we? Artemis Teases. Maybe. But honestly, I want to see how long it takes this guy to realize I’m from his own pack. Kieran holds out his Hand. “I’m Kieran Vale. Alpha heir of the Moonridge Pack. Maybe you've heard of me?” I blink. Give him my best innocent look. “Oh! Wow. Nice to meet you.” I shake his hand and jolt. It’s like static, but heavier. Electric. His hand grips mine a second too long. I look up. His expression has shifted. Briefly. A flicker of confusion. Did he feel it too?

No recognition, no bowing to the Alpha of this pack. “Jaxon,” he said, his voice smooth and controlled, the kind of voice that could be coaxing or snappy. “I presume you are aware of who I am?” I narrowed my eyes. “Introduce yourself. Names precede actions.” He smiled faintly, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Perhaps you are correct. I am Kieran, brother to the late Alpha Tristan. And soon, I intend to restore what is rightfully mine.”
