The flowers were blooming. A dragonfly flew over a bed of violets, and Ayla sprinted after it. She might have loved cats, but she was obsessed with dragonflies. The dragonfly flew to a little pond that was behind the Royal Palace and landed on a water lily. Ayla followed it. A basket was hidden behind tall grass, and Ayla went to it. In the basket, she kept jars and other things she used to catch dragonflies or butterflies. She grabbed her net and approached the dragonfly from behind. When she was close enough, she swung the net, but to her disappointment, the dragonfly flew away. She ran after it, not realizing she had gone into the pond and mud splashed on her white dress.
