"Buona notte, Papa." (Good night, Dad.) She ended the call. She sent a text to her security guard, telling him to open the gate and she returned the phone to her pocket. She felt Xavier's gaze on her and she knew he was curious about the situation. However, she did not look at him or bother explaining anything, she simply watched the movie.

And suddenly…I knew exactly how I wanted to spend it. Me: I'm off today. Three dots appeared almost immediately. Angel: Come see me. I smiled. Me: Now? Is the Den even open this early? Angel: It opens when I say it does. A laugh escaped me. Arrogant bastard. Me: I'll be there soon. Angel: I'll be waiting, kitten. My stomach fluttered. The Angel's Den felt completely different during the day. Mostly because it was empty. No music. No masked strangers. No bartenders. Just the quiet elegance of black marble, burgundy furniture and gold. My heels echoed through the enormous room.

Angela sighed and picked up her vibrating phone. Annabelle’s distressed voice sounded on the other end. “Angie…? I need you.” “Where are you?” Angela shot up from her seat immediately and headed towards the elevator. The elevator dinged and she stepped out, walking towards the front door. Leo spotted her from his desk and signaled her but she ignored him and walked out. “Miss Cameron, do you need me to take you somewhere?” Nigel asked, approaching her. She looked ahead nervously, thinking she couldn’t let Nigel drive her there, Annabelle would figure things out if she went with him and she wasn’t ready for her to know anything yet.

I just rolled my eyes at him and his brother pulled out his tongue at him. "Great! Now I have two people to annoy the shit out of me," he mumbled leaving the room. "I'm Xavier by the way," he said introducing himself. "I'm Andrea," I said. Surprisingly after that day Xavier became my best friend and I hung out with him a lot. I did school online and as for Theodore, he was our legal guardian but we didn't get to see him always because of his work. I still hate him though. I wasn't about to let the fact that he had killed my dad go just like that. One night I was fast asleep when I heard a loud bang downstairs which made me jolt awake.

It wasn't just a feeling though, it was a fact. I earnestly looked forward to our next meeting, but it never came, or at least not as I had expected. However, two weeks after our first encounter, Ms. Ellen appeared at my parents doorstep with a jar of cookies, and a wide smile, introducing herself as our next door neighbour. And then I knew the world was playing tricks on me.

Just as we step off the bus, we are met by a young man dressed as one of the new recruits, "Afternoon Sir, my name is Ricky. Sergeant Dobbs asked me to see you to your home." "Afternoon, Ricky, thank you. This here is Isabella." "Afternoon Mam. Please let me carry your bags." After loading our bags, Ricky takes us off to where we will be staying. Our home is Nothing out of the ordinary fancy; it is a two-bedroom duplex style home in the Del Mar community. Isabella loves it immediately; she can barely contain her excitement as she rushes through the front door. It warms my heart to see that she is starting to feel more comfortable with the situation.

She grinned before I led her to the kitchen. “wow, you have a beautiful home.” she complimented from behind me, “thanks.” “Maria meet Becca, our neighbor next door, Becca meet Maria, my aunt.” I introduced the both of them once we walked into the kitchen. Becca being Becca, the only hyper active teenager ready to go to school this morning, gave both mum and Maria a hug. Maria looked so surprised when she also hugged her and yes, I introduced her as my aunt. She was too close to me, too important to me for me to just introduce as a maid or nanny or whatever and I know mum understands too. She was the angel sent to us to help us.

Stacy replied with a smile. "So… let's check for a boy." Kelly said and continued searching. "Ryan or Khalid…." "Khalid!" Stacy yelled. "I love it." Angela said, and they continued eating. They were done, Angela and Kelly cleared the plates. "Stacy, Jerome. We have some sad news." Angela said. "Sad news? Why? What's that?" Stacy asked. Angela and Kelly looked at each other. "Angela is leaving for Australia tomorrow." Kelly announced.

Smiling at the older woman, she shrugged her shoulders. “It was after sunset.” “In range of the motion sensor lights.” “Nan….” “Yes.” “Nan… did you give him your ring?” “I did. Did he ask her?” “He just put a ring on her finger.” Mel murmured something in Spanish dreamily. “Shit.” Angel jumped over the back of the nearest chair and tried to look like she wasn’t just spying on them. Grabbing the TV remote, she turned it on and picked the first streaming service that popped up to search for something to watch. Her attention was more on the door rather than the screen and she did not see the odd looks she was getting.

Couldn't focus on anything except the burning need that was consuming me from the inside out. I got in my car and drove to Midnight Oasis. It was early afternoon, and the club wouldn't be open yet, but I didn't care. I'd bang on the doors until someone answered. When I got there, there was a side entrance where staff came and went. I caught one of the security guards heading in. "I need to see Angel," I said, my voice coming out rougher than I intended. The guard looked me up and down, clearly recognizing me from the other night. "She called in sick. Not working today."
