Angela was standing, back to the window, arms behind her, framed by a sky that looked too clean for everything that was happening.
“You always were dramatic,” she said, not turning.
“You always were a coward,” Anaïs replied.
Angela smiled faintly and turned.
The senator looked exactly as polished as she did on the news — lipstick like blood, posture like a weapon.
“And yet here you are,” she said. “Alone. At my mercy.”
Anaïs stepped in, slow. “I’m not the one who leaked a doctored file and called it truth.”
Angela moved to the table and picked up a manila folder. “Funny. I have five different media outlets that would disagree. Not to mention three cabinet members who’d rather I stay in power
