Javier asked sharply. “Well, Ma’am… I saw a frog earlier and I was planning to catch it so it wouldn’t get into your tent,” Alex answered honestly. “A frog?” I repeated, suddenly feeling amused. “Yes, Ma’am. It just hopped over here; I was afraid it would get into your tent,” Stefi chimed in. I reflexively turned to look inside the tent, afraid a frog might have snuck in. It would be ridiculous if I were suddenly asleep and a frog jumped right onto my face!

Zoe announced, interrupting our disagreement. "Coming, Mama.” We walked a little way until we reached the river's entrance. I watched as Zoe and her friends plopped in their tubes and laughed as English was dropped in his tube that she tied to hers. At first, he seemed a little anxious and was trying to climb into her tube, but he settled down once she gave him a beef jerky stick. Zoe greedily tore into one herself and washed it down with wine from her rum runner. "Daddy, you might want to hop in, or you'll get left behind," she called out, kicking herself away from the bank. "Here goes nothing," I mumbled as I entered the river.

"Alright. If you don't like it, I won't give it to you. How about I get you something else instead?" Solace was very mischievous and was immediately staring at Margot with bright eyes. Margot awkwardly and said, "What? Can you say what it is first?" She hoped Solace wouldn't scare her again like she did earlier. "Do you like frogs?" Solace said, "In the cave over there, I've raised many cute frogs." Before Margot could answer, Curtis said, "She likes frogs because she had some as pets when she was a child." "Really?"

I hope it doesn't have germs. "Have you been reading Princess and the Frog?" He asks me, chuckling at the sight before him. Melody finally lets the frog go before turning back to the house. "Not recently," I shrug. Remembering the story, and it replays in my mind. "She'd like it," he tells me. "She would, I'm sure." I agree. "Josh! I caught a frog," Melody announces as she enters the kitchen once more, chucking herself at Josh, who takes her in a hug, putting her on his hip.

Even Maya seems to be more chill when Andy’s around. Andy also gets along with my boy Deago. They both love being outdoors. Deago showed Andy where the best tadpoles are and Andy showed him how to make friends with squirrels. Clash can’t even fathom being friends with animals he considers food, but he’s happy they spend time outside.

The green plastic frog falls to the bottom of the pool and I bite the inside of my cheek. "Okay, you've got one frog left. If you make it, you'll win a small prize." Scott leans over my side to help line up my shot. "Try to make it this time." I laugh and pass the frog back and forth between my hands pretending to weigh it, like that will help me. "You're so helpful." The truth is I do need pointers. Not only did I lose four rounds of skee ball, but I'm on my third attempt on the frog toss and haven't hit a lily pad yet.

“See, you just snap your wrist like that, and it gives the right spin.” I try a few times. From his log, he keeps directing me, troubleshooting, till I’ve got it. He smiles proudly at my progress. “Let me show you the game I invented, exactly three seconds ago.” He laughs and I pick up a stone by my feet. I squint into the patch of lily pads, trying to find my target. "I call it, 'Hit the Bullfrog." I take aim, flinging it. The frog croaks and jumps off his spot, but the rock misses its mark, landing with a splash nearby.

"Get it off." Orion and Zephyr were snickering behind me but I could only rush to Lily. "Stay still", Blake requested. "We'll get it off, just sit still." "There's a freakin frog on my body. How am I supposed to sit still?" It was a valid point. Axel plucked the frog gently off her lap, letting it hop away into the dense forest. Lily was breathing heavily, her fingers clutching Blake's arm in fright. I turned to the kids then. They were still snickering but the moment I faced them, their amusement ceased.

She made a motion with her hands as if urging me to continue. “So naturally, Mia and I were very bored and looking for activities to fill our time with. And that’s when we started hunting frogs.” “What?” Hazel exclaimed, laughing. “Yeah,” I nodded, unable to keep the smile from my face. “We’d snatch them up by the edge of the lake and hide them in the garage. Thank God we were smart enough to put them in water or the poor things would’ve all died. So summer rolls over, we have to head back to the city, and at this point, we had over fifteen little frogs. We shared them equally between each other and decided that we would raise them.”

When I finally heard him, my blood ran cold. “Come here foxy fox. Come here, foxy fox. I wanna play some more.” Did my green eyes really give me away as the Fox, or was it a coincidence, because he seemed to like to give nicknames to the people he harassed? I sat in that tree for what seemed like forever. Besides my heartbeat, I heard nothing and saw nothing of Ezra.
