Too Much of One, Not Enough of the Other

Too Much of One, Not Enough of the Other

"Then what about that rose? Did you also have a bit too much to drink and accidentally get that tattooed on you?" Immediately, Walter's gaze darkened, and the atmosphere around us grew tense. "It's just a tattoo of a flower. Is there really a need for this overdramatic reaction?" He gave me an icy look, his eyes filled with warning, as though telling me that I would be crossing the line if I asked any more questions.

HIS CURVY OBSESSION : ABDSM CONTRACT

HIS CURVY OBSESSION : ABDSM CONTRACT

"Are you saying I'm supposed to be fat?" "I don't know. We're in front of a big elephant who's in a zoo with many other animals of different shapes" Confused, I stare at him "I'm saying, calling someone overnight dough isn't an insult considering it's doing what it's meant to do. If she doesn't like it, you chase her out of your kitchen" His words seem to make sense but at the same time, I'm confused so, I raise my brows at him. He exhales and turn to me

Second Bloom

Second Bloom

"They're not separate. The conditions produce the thing, and the thing changes the conditions. It goes in both directions." "So the sentence is wrong," Clara says. "The first sentence is right," Valentina says. "The second sentence overcorrected. Overcorrection is a different kind of error than the original one." Clara looks at the notebook. She crosses out the second sentence with a single line — not erasing it, just marking it — and writes below it: *They work on each other.* "Better," Valentina says. "It's less precise," Clara says. "But more accurate. Those are different things."

The Prince and His Sex Slave

The Prince and His Sex Slave

What did he mean by sex deprived? "How is that even possible? With so many choices and possibilities, you should be er... what's an opposite word for deprived? Plentiful sex? Sex overdose would be more apt, I think?" "Oh, yeah?" His voice was a low, teasing whisper before he bit the flesh around my collarbone. "Noo!! What did you do?" I tried to cover his bite mark and cursed myself for wearing an open neck. "Who are you so dressed up for?" "No one." "So from feeling hurt and crying, you moved on so fast? You didn't even put up a fight when I pushed you away."

___________________________________________________________________________ Overcome You can also be overcome with emotions, or overwhelmed by your feelings. Many people feel so overcome with sadness at a movie — or happiness at a wedding — that they regret not bringing a pile of tissues with them. The verb overcome also means to win or surpass. If you are going to win the marathon, you are going to have to overcome the five runners still ahead of you. https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/overcome ___________________________________________________________________________ 21 / 11 / 2021

A Crush I Can't date (My Goodnovel Crush)

A Crush I Can't date (My Goodnovel Crush)

He stared at me with a smile I couldn't decipher its meaning. "Why are you so different?" He asked, crossing his arms around his chest. "Meaning? Care to explain?" I said, raising an eyebrow up. "You are so different Olivia, different from every other girl I have met." "You called me obnoxious," he added chuckling. "It is a word that qualifies you, you know the way adjectives qualifies nouns. That is the exact way dim witted, nincompoop and others qualifies. Why the fu*ck did you stop me on the way." I growled out, frustratedly.

Hey Mister Werewolf, Will You Stop Chasing Me?

Hey Mister Werewolf, Will You Stop Chasing Me?

he said. I rolled my eyes. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Conceited. Pronounced as kuhn-see-tid, and an adjective. According to Merriam-Webster, it means having or showing an excessively high opinion of oneself. There were a lot of words associated with said words mainly: egotistical, cocky, full of hot air and other wretched words that relate to such archaic descriptions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Language fascinates me, so I love unpacking single English words into Marathi shades — 'overrated' is a great little puzzle because it sits between praise, hype, and judgment.

Here are Marathi equivalents I reach for, with tiny notes on flavor and a short example for each:

• 'जास्त कौतुक केलेले' (jaast kautuk kelele) — literally ‘over-praised’. I use this when something has received more applause than it deserves. Example: ‘हा चित्रपट माझ्या मते जास्त कौतुक केलेला आहे.’ (This film, in my view, is over-praised.)

• 'अतिरंजित' (atiranjit) — ‘exaggerated’. Good for claims or descriptions that are blown out of proportion. Example: ‘या प्रतिबंधित मध्यवर्ती भागाचे वर्णन अतिरंजित आहे.’ (The description of this controversial chapter is exaggerated.)

• 'अतिशयोक्तीपूर्ण' (atishyoktipoorna) — ‘hyperbolic’. Slightly more formal; useful in essays or reviews when critics use grandiose language. Example: ‘त्याचे यश अतिशयोक्तीपूर्ण स्वरात सादर करण्यात आले.’ (His success was presented in hyperbolic terms.)

• 'फुगवलेले' (phugavalelé) — ‘inflated’ or ‘blown up’. Casual and punchy, often used in conversations about hype, trends or marketing. Example: ‘तिने माझ्या पुस्तकाला खूप फुगवलेले म्हणाले.’ (She said my book was overly hyped.)

• 'जास्त महत्त्व देणे/दिलेलं' (jaast mahatva dene/dilela) — ‘given too much importance’. Practical when something’s value is exaggerated by people or the media. Example: ‘माध्यमांनी त्या एपिसोडला जास्त महत्त्व दिलं.’ (The media gave that episode too much importance.)

• 'जास्त उंचावलेले' (jaast unchaavalele) — ‘over-elevated’. Conveys that someone or something has been raised on a pedestal unnecessarily. Example: ‘लोकांनी त्या कलाकाराला जास्त उंचावलं आहे.’ (People have over-elevated that artist.)

Tone and register matter: in casual chats I’ll say 'फुगवलेलं' or 'जास्त कौतुक', but in formal writing 'अतिशयोक्तीपूर्ण' or 'अतिरंजित' fits better. Also useful to know antonyms — if you want to say the opposite of 'overrated', try 'अवमूल्यन केलेले' (undervalued) or 'योग्यपणे मूल्यमापन झालेलं' (properly evaluated).

A practical tip: Marathi speakers often mix in English in casual talk, so you’ll hear 'overrated' used directly, but native phrases read cleaner and carry nuance. Personally, I enjoy how each Marathi option highlights a different angle — whether it’s praise, exaggeration, hype, or pedestal-building — and that lets me pick the exact tone I want when I’m writing a review or just ranting to friends.
