“We were due for a field trip.” The Apocrypha Gastronomica was housed in a pocket dimension that looked like a grandmother’s kitchen crossed with a mad alchemist’s lab. Jars of glowing liquids lined shelves, cookbooks floated in mid-air, and a faint smell of ozone and burnt sugar hung in the air. In the center of the room, hovering over the main tome—a massive book bound in what looked like living dough—was the problem.

I snapped at no one but the books. My wolf was silent, her own disappointment radiating through our bond. As I moved the fourth book away, I noticed another under it. I looked at the fifth book. A slim, tattered volume with no title on the spine. The cover was so dead that it was hard to see the name. I looked at it in confusion. I wasn't aware that I had carried it with me. As I opened it, the name was written on the inside. My dad had mentioned it once, calling it the Apocrypha of the Veiled.

It was — and here he found the word Elara Vale had used in her book, the word he had read three times in the margin notes he had made while reading it — *addition*. Not repair. Addition. He went back to his desk. He had the next paper to begin planning.

Colin comes in, a wave of surprise hits me, but before I can say anything, Shawn follows him in. “You're here already, Eva.” Colin said, acknowledging me, a wide smile on his lips. “Not too long ago.” I replied, returning the smile. I sneak a glance at Shawn. He watched me like a hawk. Like he knew what I'd been doing. My eyes slowly stray to the big book, just to be sure I had actually closed it. The golden back rested heavily on the rest of the book, “The Codex Luporum” deeply engraved on it, you could pour water in it, and it'll sit comfortably.

I run my hand over it before propping it open. 'How to refine your magic: A Complete Guide'. "Hmmm…" I purse my lips together. Could this actually be the answer to all of my prayers? Gods, I hoped so. Closing the book, I flip the book over. Weirdly enough, there's no barcode on the back of it, nor on the inside cover when I flip it open again. Had someone left this here on accident? I tuck it close to my chest. Well, finder's keepers, right?
