LOGINShawn Monteal is everything the packs fear. A billionaire, Alpha, and a wolf who long ago abandoned mercy. He believes fate is a lie and love, a weakness. When a human woman witnesses his shift, he makes a ruthless choice, to turn her, control the damage, erase the mistake. Eva Roderigo survives the transformation when she shouldn’t. Worse of all, her wolf answers Shawn's. The bond between them is wrong. Dangerous. And when ancient laws demand Eva choose another mate for balance and peace, she does. Shawn honors her choice. The world does not. As rival Alphas close in and the Moon Goddess tightens her grip, Eva learns the truth. Shawn was never unstable, he was restrained. And loving him doesn’t make him better. It makes him unstoppable. When Eva breaks the Rite itself, defying gods, fate, and law, Shawn kneels once, and only once. Not to destiny. To her. A dark paranormal romance featuring a morally grey Alpha, a heroine who doesn’t tame the monster, and a bond chosen in blood and defiance.

The first time I saw him shift, I thought I was going to die.
I should have.
Moonlight spilled across the estate courtyard, pale and accusing, catching the silver glint of his eyes. Shawn Monteal didn’t walk like a man; he moved like a predator who owned the night and everything in it.
Shawn Monteal. His legacy was built, even from the werewolves world to the ruins we humans lived in, he was known. World class billionaire. There was something strange and dangerous about him though. People who encountered him had said. I never did.
But now, I realize it. He is a werewolf.
Nobody really knew. Nobody except me and his fellow werewolves.
I freeze, clutching the edge of my cloak. I am a human. I am not supposed to be here. And yes, I'm very much aware that the werewolves lived behind the threshold border. And yet, here I am.
Before you judge me, just know I was out to pick wildflowers, that'll be used to prepare the next batch of pain relief ointments I sold in the market centre.
I've always snuck out here to get them, but never have I encountered such a sight as today.
Run. Flee. Do not look at him.
Too late.
He was already aware of me. The faintest twitch of his jaw, a tilt of his head, and I felt the weight of his gaze pierce me like steel.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he say. His voice is velvet-smooth, yet, cold, and deadly. “You don’t survive what you’ve just seen.”
I swallow. A cold shudder runs down my spine. The words come out too fast, too sharp. Very unbelievable, even to myself. “I didn’t see anything.”
Who tells a lie this transparent?
I am no kid, and it isn't my first lie, but for some reason, I feel too jittery to even maintain eye contact.
He smiles. The corner of his mouth barely lifts, but it is enough. I see the teeth. The fangs. The ones meant for tearing. I see the wolf under the skin, watching, calculating.
“You lie poorly,” he say, looking at my feet briefly, before meeting my gaze again. “And yet… you are still alive.”
I shiver. His presence is suffocating. The air around him carried weight, metal, snow, and something darker I couldn’t name. I felt myself curl inside me, my instinct screaming, This is the end. This is the end.
And then he steps forward.
Time slows down.
I should have run. I couldn’t. My legs betrayed me. My mind betrayed me. The way he moved—graceful, unyielding, made my blood beat faster, a rhythm my chest recognized as a challenge.
I'll tell you something for free. I've never had to cower from anything. I was that fearless, hence my being inside the werewolf territory, hunting wildflowers.
Am I stupid? Probably. Am I ready to acknowledge it? Definitely not now.
"You stand unmoving" he says like he notices and keeps tabs. “Do you feel it?” One step closer. His eyes never leave mine. “The bond?”
I don't understand.I don't want to. I didn’t want to. What bond could there be between a wolf and a human? I had never heard of it, unless this was a first. Talking about "bond", I didn't feel any connection to the man or rather wolf before me.
What I feel is more like a transfixion. I was stunned. Unmoving, like a deer caught in headlights. But a spark of fire? No. Nothing. Nada.
Shawn stops, close enough that I can see the black in his eyes is not a reflection. It is a warning.
“You will answer me,” he says, Calm, patient, lethal. “You are mine now, whether you wish it or not.”
I try to back away, try to escape. My head screams loudly at me. I feel my adrenaline rush kick in. I'm in that fight or flight mode, but my legs falter. I can barely move away. And then his hand, ice-cold, impossibly strong, clamps over mine. The moment our skin touches, everything changes.
The world is tilting. I whimper. My mind screams again, this time, louder than before. I feel every heartbeat, every instinct, every shred of fear and excitement pulling me into him, into the monster he has become.
"Let! Me! Go!" I scream with defiance back at him.
No way I belonged to him. True, I had seen what I wasn't supposed to, but if I didn't admit to seeing anything, what if I was telling the truth and he shouldn't be holding me captive?
"You don't get to go. Not now. Not ever."
"Why is that? I told you, I didn't see anything."
"But you did", he says, his claw trailing along my chin, down to my jugular vein.
For the first time, I feel myself actually panicking. The type of panic that makes you weak in the knees. Yeah, that kind.
"You're no wolf, and you've seen what your eyes shouldn't. You have to die… or, I could let you live. But as a wolf. You've already seen too much."
"Please, just let me go." I plead, being reduced to a whimpering mess. "I'll tell no one. I don't have a family or a relative to tell. Your secret is safe with me. I promise." Even though I had no family, I didn't want to die. Not yet. I had promised my late mother that I would live my life to the fullest. And now? A werewolf of all things would take that life from me? I grow more frantic, begging and pleading.
"You may not know this about me, young lady but I do not practice mercy. You are no different" he said looking down at me, "your options were to die or to be turned. Although I'm quite sure you wouldn't survive the turning. No one does."
I just got an offer to die or to die. But what rubbed me wrong, was the condescending look I got from Shawn, the man above me. Bold of him to think I'd choose any of his options.
"I would REALLY REALLY love to go" I say, tilting my head and giving him a lopsided smile that implies 'I'm still bargaining'.
I must have provoked him or something with that smile, because without warning, he pounces on my neck. Fangs, deep in the side of my throat. The pain travels around my body. I feel the bite so deep, the pain spreads throughout my body like molten lava, then I black out.
I should die here.
I don't.
And worse—neither does he.
EvaI grip the polished wooden rail tightly as I descend the grand staircase, my legs still a little bit shaky from the night before. Each step, heavy, barely lifting my leg to the next step. My breathing remains steady, as I focus on not losing my balance.“Eva.”I lift my head to see Colin standing there, at the base of the staircase, hands clasped behind his back, eyes fixed on me.“Colin?" I call back softly. Not the face I was expecting to see, but okay. I continue down until my feet touch the cool marble floor. Up close, the worry in his eyes is impossible to miss. His brows furrowed and jaw tight.I stop right in front of him. “Why are you here?”He hesitates only a second. “Shawn sent me.”“Oh…” The word slips out before I can stop it. My gaze darts quickly around the spacious foyer, searching the shadows near the corridors and the tall windows, hoping for even a glimpse of Shawn. Nothing.“He’s not around. He left for a short vacation very early th
Eva “You should be fine by tomorrow.”“Oh God! I really really hope so.” I huff out air through my mouth, arms hugging my legs while rocking myself on my bed. Danielle comes out of the dressing room, her basket full with laundry she'll be returning tomorrow morning. It was routine for her—gather the clothes at night—return them neat the next morning. “You'll be sleeping out on the balcony again tonight?” she asks, walking to the window and drawing the curtains shut with her free hand. “I owe it to myself to see tomorrow.” She smiles at my reply, then looks around the room. The balcony door stood wide open, letting a current of wind flow in that I'd might have considered chilly had I not been in this state. “Don't forget to put off the lights before you retire. The moonlight today is brighter than usual, it should suffice.” she says, her voice carrying a hint of maternal tone in it. I nod, following her eyes to the balcony, to the dark sky illuminated by
Eva It's night time already, but we're in the atrium— Shawn, Ophelia, Alice and I. The heat passing through me and slamming my insides out is a bit bearable because of the direct moonlight kissing my skin, easing the crawling through my veins.Oh!And the multiple heat pads I'd plastered on my body before coming downstairs. Just like Alice had said, she'd relayed the moon thing to Shawn, who then called for Ophelia. Ophelia. She keeps glancing at me at intervals, like she is dying to know something that I know. Even though I'm sure there's nothing like that. Her robes shimmer with embroidered phases of the moon, and her feet leave no sound on the marble floor, as she now walks around in a circle, placing white stones after her. The candles kept burning, and no matter how close she gets, it never ignites her flowing robes.I stand barefoot, watching her, arms folded before me, the night air thick with incense and pine.Shawn is right beside me, his shoulde
Shawn“Alice!” I call out, my voice cutting through the quiet rustle of the garden leaves as I step out from behind the row of trimmed hedges. She pauses in front of the mansion, one hand still on the heavy oak door she’d just pulled shut behind her. For a second she looks exactly like the Alice I’ve always known, her perfect posture, jet-black hair swept back in that elegant knot, the kind of composure that could make you fidget and give away yourself if you had something to hide. From here, I'd watched her come out of the mansion, no glance toward the gardens, no quick scan of the rose beds or the fountain the way she always does when she steps outside. Instead her eyes had remained straight ahead, locked on nothing, and that's how I know something is sitting on her mind. She turns toward my voice, and the mask slips just enough for me to see the confusion she was trying to bury. “Oh, Shawn,” she says, relief passing across her face as she descends the steps
ShawnI'm appalled. I've been this way since I left the South, but there's no need to let it show. Now back at the estate, the place is quite serene, except for the birds chirping sounding off here and there. Not gonna lie, I'd been expecting a more seen-return. No
Eva“What’s it like_ life as something other than human?” Matt asked, sitting before me, while his eyes quickly scanned the room. Early this morning, he had knocked on my door, rousing me from a sleep I did not so much enjoy. The night had been so cold, the blanket I had o
Shawn“You’re here— quite early, but still late,” Kaal's eyes darted around, looking through us and beyond.I knew just what he meant. Late, because the meeting had been delayed for days; early, because we arrived sooner than usual, as if we were roosters crowing co
Shawn“Marcus, send word to the guards, they'll need to be out here on watch, while we continue.” I place the mug I had drunk from on the makeshift stool before me, the fire crackled softly, sending tiny whooshes into the air, and I stared at it. “When do we leave, Alpha?”
