I got down and entered. Two tiny figures collided into my body and I picked both up with a smile. “Hi, how is my princess doing?” I faced Avery who nodded with her big brown eyes, and a happy smile spread on her lips. I nodded and faced Arthur, “What about you? Did you say it went well?” He grumpily nodded and I instantly knew something was wrong. Arthur is a very quiet type unlike the sassy Avery. As quiet as he is, he is always in a fight with his sister which is somewhat baffling to me.

I slammed the engine to life, the tires spinning in the dirt as I floored it. "Darius, my father!" Iris looked back. Arthur was standing in the middle of the clearing, clutching his ledger to his chest as the red mist swallowed him whole. He didn't scream. He just vanished into the crimson dark, the leather-bound book the last thing I saw before the fog claimed him. I didn't look back. I drove like a man possessed, the van bouncing over the uneven terrain as we raced away from the gorge. "We're just humans in a van, Iris," I said, a dark, hysterical laugh bubbling up as I checked the rearview mirror. "No pack, no palace, and a world that’s currently turning into a horror show."

It was just me and the squirrel-spider, whose head I could see out of the corner of my eye. Not having anything else to do, I continued my efforts. I planned to break through to the adjacent world, and never come back. They probably wouldn’t even save me a slice of pie. I sank into the hot thumbprint in the middle of my head. I was close. I don’t know how much time passed but it was starting to get dark when Arthur returned, alone. I saw it, then. All around him, a slight glow. Like light seeping out from around a closed door. I pushed. With all my might I pushed the door open.

A masculine voice said from behind. The two girls turned backwards and saw a guy with brown hair combed backwards, with black glasses and wearing a Jurassic Park tshirt. Amy knew who he was, he was Jeremy Price, they were classmates in Literature class. He was one of the best students, with good grades and knowledge with everything related to Technology. "I'm sorry girls, I hope I didn't scare you. I'm just trying to recruit as many people as possible. It was my idea to have the play and convince Mr. Geller. He might even give extra points to the students that participate." Jeremy said.
