Liz’s POV I stood at the front of the hall with Arthur just behind me. Whispers moved through the crowd like a living thing. I took a deep breath standing tall. “I wish that I were here with better news”. Faces lifted, everyone with their eyes on me now. “Alpha Lumian is dead.”

I scrambled to my feet, shifting back into my human form as I stumbled toward Lucian. "Lucian!" I cried, dropping to my knees beside him. My hands pressed against his chest, trying to stop the blood that seeped from his wounds. His eyes fluttered open, barely holding focus. "You’re going to be okay," I choked out, pressing harder against his wounds. "Just hold on." Lucian’s lips twitched into something that almost resembled a smile. "We both know that’s not true. I'm dying Lyra." Tears blurred my vision. "Don’t say that!" His hand lifted, weakly grasping mine. His fingers were cold, his grip barely there.

The healer remained in the corner of the cold chamber, her knees drawn tight to her chest, arms wrapped around them. Darian’s lifeless body still lay where it had fallen the night before, the chains still binding his wrists and ankles, though they no longer held purpose. His glassy eyes stared at the ceiling, blood vessels burst red around the corneas, frozen in an eternal echo of agony.
