And as I lay there, one thing settled clearly in my mind I wasn’t trying to go back to who I was before. I wasn’t trying to fix everything all at once. I wasn’t waiting for everything to feel perfect before moving forward. I was already moving. Quietly. And for now… That was enough.

I said to all of them. I took the first step forward. "Move.”

It was my move now. And I wasn’t about to lose.

This wasn’t over. Not by a long shot. “Then let’s move,” I said, stepping past him. “Before someone realizes I’m gone.”

Catherine moved me forward, and I let her, thec ourthouse steps falling away behind us. It was almost over.

And in that moment… I moved.

I step inside. I’m not ready. But I move anyway. Toward Mia.

Not in the way I had been told. We moved again. Faster this time. More urgent. I kept my pace. Not because I was being dragged. But because for the first time I was choosing to follow.

Simply replaced by the evidence of the next step, and the next, and the one after that. The future stretched ahead, dark and open and entirely ours. And I walked into it without hesitation, without looking back, without needing the destination to be visible before I was willing to move toward it. That was enough. That was everything.
