Chapter 27 ~ The Werewolf Realm ~ Alpha Levi's POV Micha and I went back into my room to continue reading. We were both too excited to stop. The story was becoming more mysterious with every page. Entering my room, we saw the book on the table, waiting for us like it had a mind of its own. The moment I approached, the book opened by itself and glowing golden letters floated up from the pages. Micha and I exchanged looks—half shocked, half thrilled.

He took Elara’s tiny, sticky hand, guided a pencil into her fist, and helped her make a single, wobbly, triumphant mark on the paper. It was a smudge. A scribble. A beginning. “There,” he said softly. “Chapter One.” The Keeper’s Almanac, Volume One, was complete. Its story was one of defense, of repair, of quiet joy. Volume Two had just begun with a baby’ first mark. Its story was yet to be told, but it would be written in rolling over, in first steps, in the wide-eyed wonder of a child growing up in a world that had been fiercely, lovingly kept for her.

His parchment skin folded in on itself until he was nothing more than a small, leather-bound book lying on the paper path. I picked it up. The cover was blank, but the pages inside were filled with the story of a werewolf and a girl, written in a hand that looked like both of ours. "We're moving into the Fourth Vault," I said, looking at the path that now stretched toward a horizon where the wooden stars were beginning to turn into real, morning light. "What's the first line of the new chapter?" Xander asked, his arm around me as we stepped off the paper and back onto the moss.

I muttered, opening the first page. I needed to start working on myself so that I could erase all thoughts of Xavier’s sister from his memory. On the first page of the book was a table of content, showing all that was to be found in the book. I scrolled down from the introduction and jumped to “Casting your first spell.” I traced my finger on the dotted lines and found the page number. I opened the book and when I got to this page, I stopped. The name of the contact was boldly written in capital letters and it took the whole page. Opening to the next page, I found it’s content.

Gazing back towards the book, it felt as if something was pushing me towards it. I got up and walked towards the book. Placing it on my lap I noticed that the cover was filled with complicated detailing. The material felt rough, it felt old but well-taken care of. The colors were a mixture of ash grey, gold, and specks of white, the title was written in crimson red. Mara wouldn’t be likely to find me here, at least not right away, giving me a little time to read unbothered. I settled down, brushing the leaves and pine needles off the bench, then opened the book on my lap and continued to read where I had left off last night. The chapter on documented reincarnation accounts was dense and slow-going in places, and a lot of it still didn’t apply to my situation in any direct way. But I kept reading, skimming over the sections that seem irrelevant. I was about three quarters of the way through the chapter when I turned the page and found the heading: “The Lycan Princess and the Throne of Ashmoore.”
