A scream escaped my throat and at the same time, the black void cracked apart. “Make them pay!”

"Looks like everyone has received the email." My voice rang out clearly in the silent room. "Does anyone here have any doubts about the authenticity of this lawsuit?" No one spoke. Keira glared at me, her eyes bloodshot. Her voice, hoarse from her earlier shout, trembled. "What made you think you could do this to us, Natasha? We were just expressing our opinions! It's called freedom of speech!" Those behind her quickly followed her lead and began shouting in unison. "That's right! Freedom of speech!"

“ Meara!” The whispers started again, soft but notable. I tensed, my eyes snapping open. I scanned the field, but there was no one in sight. The sound seemed to come from the tree itself, from the rustling of its leaves. I pressed my palms against the rough bark and closed my eyes, focusing on the whispers. " Come... find... me..." The words were faint but distinct. My heart raced. Was I losing my mind, or was there something more to these whispers? I stood up, brushing the dirt off my jeans, and took a few steps back. The whispers grew louder, more insistent.

The cacophony of my anguish reverberated through the disintegrating dreamland, an anguishing symphony reflecting the unraveling threads of my sanity. "Liam!" My voice, strained with fear, echoed in a crescendo of torment. The name reverberated into the void, intertwining with the macabre backdrop of the collapsing castle and the sinister whispers of the distorted elders. Each scream carried the weight of my powerlessness, a plea for salvation drowned in the surreal nightmare that held me captive.

I tried to speak but words nor a puff of air came out from my mouth. “I DARE YOU TO FUCKING SAY THAT AGAIN!” He screamed at my face. My eyes stung badly along with tears filling them. Everything around me was becoming cloudy and less vivid. He growled more and his screams continued to echo until I could no longer hear his yellings. My ears only picked a constant noise and I knew it was death calling me.

*************** Pitch blackness swallows Aiden whole, a heavy, suffocating velvet that presses against his skin from all sides. He is standing on nothing, floating in a void where up and down have lost their meaning. Panic claws at his throat, sharp and ragged. "Mom! Dad!" he screams, his voice cracking, echoing back at him with a hollow, distorted quality. "Please, come out! I’m scared!"

The wind tangles through my hair. Beside me, Lucian looks impossibly alive. "Scream," he says. I glance at him. "What?" "Scream." "I don't scream." His grin widens. "Everyone screams." I hesitate, self conscious, unsure of whether I'll be judged. Then throw caution to the wind, and do it anyway. I throw my head back and let out every ounce of grief, anger, betrayal, and frustration I've been carrying. The sound tears from me. Raw. Unfiltered.

Axel adjusts himself in his pants and shakes his head as if shaking away his thoughts, “Let’s go find our girl,” “Hold onto me, whatever you do, don’t let go. If we get stuck in the void and end up separated I’ll never find you,” I warn. “Can’t I just shout until you find me?” He frowns. “No, the void absorbs sound. If you do get lost there then don’t let the darkness take over your mind. You’ll see things, awful things, but they’re not real. Ignore them and fight with everything you have to port out. You have the ability to port, so don’t give up trying,”

My laptop is launched across the room, the loud crash from it slamming through equipment and into the wall swallowed by the roar ripping from my throat. I convulse violently from the force of the piercing wail falling past my lips, so long and sorrowful that it tapers off into a silent scream. Heaving in a breath again, another thunderous cry explodes out of me as I grab the closest table and launch that next. My hearing goes after that as if I’m underwater and all sound is diluted. The tide batters into me, drawing me into its clutches and sending me spiraling down into the black pit of despair at the bottom.

Every inhale felt like a razor scraping against my throat I clamped my eyes shut, but the image was becoming clearer, the image of the car speeding towards me, crashing into mine. My body tensed, and a primal scream tore from my throat "Nooooo!" I screamed, wildly pushing away the hand that grasped me, tears streaming down my cheeks. "Save me!!"
