Gazing back towards the book, it felt as if something was pushing me towards it. I got up and walked towards the book. Placing it on my lap I noticed that the cover was filled with complicated detailing. The material felt rough, it felt old but well-taken care of. The colors were a mixture of ash grey, gold, and specks of white, the title was written in crimson red. He kicked a shadow-creature away. His face twisted in pain when hot black ink scorched his spirit-leg.

I teased, producing another handful of treats to appease its hunger. I turned away from the mouse, settling into the comforting solitude of my room, the anticipation fluttering in my chest, I carefully unfolded the weathered parchment, the faint scent of earth and ink wafting up to greet me. My fingers trembled slightly as I traced the elegant script that adorned the page, each word etched with a sense of urgency that sent a shiver down my spine. Whoever wrote this could write really well. It was almost certainly no lowly maid.
