Sienna's POV A steel-toed boot slammed into my ribs, and I curled on the ground, coughing up blood. "Get up, little she-wolf." Chief Elder Marcus looked down at me, a vicious smile on his face. Behind him stood a dozen armed men—Brynn's mercenaries. "The game is over." I pushed myself up, blood dripping from the corner of my mouth onto the grass. The forest around us was burning. Jake and the other rangers were already down, lying motionless nearby.

She just stood beside Dante, watching Damien smear frosting everywhere, and let the day unfold exactly the way it wanted to. Eli suddenly appeared beside Ashley, slightly out of breath. “Ash, someone wants to see the Prince.” She frowned. “What?” He turned his phone toward her. On the screen was Asher. But not exactly the Asher she remembered. He had grown a beard. It suited him. He looked older and calmer. Different in a good way. He was seated in what looked like his study — bookshelves behind him, sleeves rolled up. Ashley blinked once before smiling.

Draven’s face goes pale. I look at him through the storm of breaking silver. “This is the only version that lives.” Something pulses beneath my palm. I freeze. Not magic. Movement. Small. Real. Certain. Ashen answers. I press my hand there, and the old fear in me becomes something harder than courage. My voice comes quiet. “He’ll never carry your reflection.” Draven’s mask falls. There’s no grand rage beneath it. Only cold. His hand drops to the rubble and closes around a mirror shard. He moves fast. The shard flashes toward me, not at my throat, not at my heart.

Ryker said. “It’s the new girl. We don’t know what she is yet as her identity has not been confirmed,” Remus said. New girl? Ryker thought. The only new girl they’ve had is the one in his class. Julianne Ashwynd. What has she got to do with this? “Julianne Ashwynd?” Remus suddenly asked and Ryker turned to him. “That is her name?” Ryker forgot he was in the midst of vampires who can read minds. He clenched his jaw and said, “It’s nothing.”

But in a way that settles in her eyes. “Another time, little star.” My heart sinks. “Professor—” “Another time.” Her voice is gentle, but not dismissive or angry. Aries lifts his head, golden eyes blinking slowly. Almost apologetically. I want to push. Gods, I want to. But something tells me she has spent years carrying whatever memories live behind those eyes. And perhaps she’s not ready to hand them over. Instead, she smiles softly. “Tell me, have you attended Professor Draven’s combat class yet?”

“Once we pull this off, you can have both. Your wife and your girl.” Damien didn’t look away from the camera. “Who says I want both?” Shane scoffed and looked off. There had been word that Asher, son of the famous Lord Alaric Lestat—head of one of the strongest vampire clans—had abandoned his family, his clan, for a hybrid woman. It was utterly disgraceful. And he feared the same fate might befall his Lord. So maybe Damien had a thing for this one. Fine. But liking her didn’t mean forgetting what they came here to do. And Shane would make sure he didn’t.
