Lysander and Kaelen caught up with us as we reached the landing. I skidded to a halt. Ash sat on the floor with Claire in his arms. She was covered in blood. It spilled from her chest, pooling on the floor and smearing over Ash’s hands. He tried to stop the flow with his palms and magic, but the crimson liquid escaped between his fingers. “No!” I fell to my knees in front of them. “She’s going to be okay, right?” Ash gazed at me in horror. “I lost her.” “What? No. Heal her. You’re a Fae, heal her!”

Joshua said again, as Jamie carefully stood by the bookcase, waiting to move in once Joshua signaled that it was safe. Asher smelled the vampire before he could even see her, and yet, nothing, not even that was enough to have him take his vision from the trembling target which was Miranda. She gulped and hiccupped while looking into his globes, and this image seared itself into the Alpha's brain, and in the process bruising his heart. The Alpha growled at the sensation, and this made Miranda's vision dot with black exploding stars, for she was close to losing consciousness out of fear.

Just then, a small head peeked through the suffocating smoke. “Madam, do you need any help?” someone asked timidly. I forced my eyes open and saw a young boy who was about the same age as my son. He was covered in ash and dirt, but his eyes shone brightly through the smoke. He was so small in size, yet he managed to muster the strength to help me up. Then, together, we slowly made our way outside. The path to the outside was incredibly challenging, and I felt like giving up several times.

He made a move to speak but no words were formed, instead, blood burst out of his lips, splattering against my face. His eyes didn't leave mine, even as I witnessed the life slowly drain from them. A sob grew in my heart, and I let it out. It came out strangled, like a wounded animal. "No...", I muttered out. The blade slipped out of his chest, the sound of bones and squelching flesh loud like thunder in the quiet forest. Asher slid to the forest floor, his back against the tree. Blood was slowly spreading across the white shirt he wore like a rose in bloom, except it was my brother's blood painting that canvas.

She’s going to kill us all if we don’t kill her first.” “Andros—“ I grabbed his arm as I pleaded once again, but he pushes the book to me, cutting me off. “Read this book, Asha, and you will find out the truth yourself,” Andros gave me one last look before going back to the Packhouse, leaving the book in my hands.
