A sickening crack. Another rogue stepped from the shadows, tall and built like a tank, with scars down his cheek like claw marks that never healed clean. His eyes locked on me—cold and amused. Two more behind him. “Three against one?” I said, spitting blood from my mouth and rising to my feet. “Cowards travel in packs now?” The first rogue staggered up beside them, wheezing. “He’s fast.” “Not fast enough,” Scar-cheek replied smoothly. Behind me, Rufus let out a low, broken growl from where he lay bleeding in the clearing, his hulking wolf form barely holding together. His fur was matted with blood, a back leg twisted at a brutal angle, and the scent of pain and iron choked the air.

But no sound came. Just him—**Asher**, standing on four powerful legs, covered in black and silver fur, his head snapping toward a group of intruders. He lunged, tearing through them with precision, no hesitation. A blur of motion, of fury and power. There was blood on his teeth. He snapped his teeth an inch from Ignatius’ jugular before pulling back and slamming his weight into the other wolf’s side. They went back to the dirt, snarling and snapping.

Asher responded with a snarl, his massive form charging forward with terrifying speed. They collided. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the air, cracking the earth beneath them. Trees groaned in protest as if the forest itself was about to shatter. Seraphina’s white wolf lashed out, her claws raking across Asher’s black fur, but he countered with his own swipe, his claws tearing into her side. They rolled, their massive bodies colliding in a blur of white and black, their power sending ripples of energy through the very ground beneath them.

Then his mouth curled, sharp with greed. “There it is,” he whispered. “Finally.” Before he could finish, before he could harness whatever sick claim he thought he had over me, a shadow surged into us. Heath. A beast of black fur and fury, blood glistening on his muzzle, eyes lit like hellfire. He collided with Ashar with a force that rattled my bones, massive claws raking down Ashar’s chest. Ashar’s grip tore from me as he staggered, teeth bared. “Get off me!” Ashar roared, and his body broke apart, shifting, twisting, snapping until a massive silver-gray wolf stood where he had been.

he shouted, his voice trembling with anger. Asher’s lips curled into a snarl. "You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into." He took a step forward, but Lucas didn’t back down. Instead, he launched himself at Asher with a force that surprised even him. Lucas was strong, but Asher was stronger, infinitely so. The werewolf inside him roared in anger at the audacity of this mere human trying to challenge him. With a swift, brutal motion, Asher caught Lucas by the shoulders and hurled him against the wall. The impact was bone-jarring, and Lucas gasped in pain, but still, he tried to push himself up.

Asher in his wolf form, fighting against multiple enemies, was a sight to behold. He moved with a deadly grace that was unusual for a wolf, but it held traces of that feral brutality I loved so much, like he truly was a wild animal with no thoughts other than to kill and devour. There were four witches still surrounding him, one with a shield of pulsating energy flowing from her hands. Three lifeless bodies lay around him, all splattered in crimson blood. My eyes homed in on a spot below his shoulder blade. His fur glistened brighter there, and I knew even without the metallic scent filling the air, that he had been wounded.
